The work will pay off, however: finding one gives players access to a strong range of physical moves. Poor priority options (why can’t it learn Mach Punch?) and low speed at 55, though, means it often struggles to keep up with other competitive line-ups. Still, its Pokedex entries state that it can effortlessly move mountains and it’s one of the most physically imposing Fighting Pokemon in series history.

9 Electivire

A Generation IV Electric-type, Electivire was tied for highest overall base stats of the Human-Like Egg Group when it was released. Through a combination of speed and versatility, utilizing the ability to learn a lot of different moves, Electivire can serve as a potent offensive threat in many line-ups. Notably, Electivire is a dual threat, with both a high base Attack at 123 and an above-average Special Attack of base 95.

In later generations, the addition of a variety of tools such as Volt Switch, which does damage and swaps the Pokemon that uses it afterwards at the same time, has helped keep Electivire’s arsenal varied. The rare Motor Drive Ability also gives it niche counter-power, offering full immunity to Electric-type attacks and a Speed boost when targeted by one. Super Effective coverage doesn’t count for everything, though, as it often lacks the oomph to take down its targets.

8 Gardevoir

A late addition to the Human-Like Egg group and a big fan favorite, Gardevoir is a powerful Psychic- and Fairy-type Pokemon offering a formidable base Special Attack stat at 115 and a range of useful support moves.

RELATED: Pokemon: 10 Unanswered Questions We Still Have About Psychic-Types

Of course, Mega Gardevoir was an even more powerful battler, but even though the Mega Evolution mechanic was removed in Pokemon Sword & Shield, Gardevoir offers a variety of special attacks and healing potential for many teams. Close Combat also allows it to break through defensively-oriented or stall line-ups, and Swords Dance offers sweep potential with the right setup. It does lack in raw Attack from the outset, though, and its high base power STAB moves don’t quite make up the difference without a boost.

6 Toxtricity

A unique type combination and a new Generation VIII addition, Toxtricity excels due to its ability to evade counterplay. A potent mixed attacker with a varied movepool, its base form is just a little sub-par in terms of Speed and defenses, which makes it rather harder to use effectively. Unfortunately, the power it does wield doesn’t always carry over to other games, with Lucario consistently ranked in lower tiers in Super Smash Bros. With Attack and Special Attack stats of base 104, Infernape can hit hard and remain unpredictable as a mixed attacker.

Though its Fighting and Fire type combination gives it a lot of knockout potential, it also makes Infernape weak to Flying, Psychic, Water, and Ground attacks. Able to sweep whole teams (and offer a lot of utility as a lead) but also liable to be quickly taken down itself, Infernape is a mixed bag that might be perfect for a lot of trainers, depending on their playstyle and strategy.

3 Alakazam

A Gen I pure Psychic-type, Alakazam boasts incredible success across multiple iterations of the series. The key to its success has been its Hidden Ability, Libero, which essentially gives it STAB on all of its moves by switching its typing accordingly (as with Greninja’s infamous Protean).
