According to his Twitter bio, Cassidy\u00a0is a \u201cCharacter &amp; Creature\u00a0Designer\u201d and he posted the image to his account with the caption, \u201cDarth Jar Jar. My fan art redesign for Jar Jar Binks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The image depicts the controversial <em>Star Wars <\/em>character\u00a0in a much darker and grittier portrayal than we\u2019re used to seeing. Jar Jar Binks made his first\u00a0appearance over two decades ago in <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/first-ten-minutes-phantom-menace-launches-palpatines-evil-plan\/\"><em>Star Wars: Episode 1 &#8211; The Phantom Menace<\/em><\/a><em> (1999)<\/em>. Audience and critic reaction to\u00a0the character was, let&#8217;s say, tepid at its best and downright vicious\u00a0at its worst. In the years that followed, Jar Jar went on\u00a0to become one of the most hated <em>Star Wars<\/em> characters to ever grace\u00a0the silver screen.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED<\/strong>:\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/star-wars-qui-gons-force-ghost-appear-disney-plus-obi-wan-series\/\">Star Wars: Qui-Gon&#8217;s Force Ghost Should Appear In The Disney Plus Obi-Wan Series<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Despite this reaction, It\u2019s been a long-time fan theory\u00a0amongst the <em>Star Wars<\/em> fandom that Jar Jar Binks was actually a Sith Lord and is secretly responsible for many of the events depicted in\u00a0the prequel trilogy. After\u00a0<em>The Phantom Menace<\/em>,\u00a0Jar Jar Bink\u2019s role was likely to cut down\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/ahmed-best-jar-jar-star-wars-backlash-suicide\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">due to the backlash from fans<\/a><em>.\u00a0<\/em>George Lucas&#8217; original plans for Jar Jar Binks, whatever they may have been, remain a mystery.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Kevin__Cassidy\/status\/1356310857744076802\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Fanart such as this shows that, despite the initial harsh response\u00a0towards Lucas&#8217;s much-maligned\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/another-star-wars-trilogy\/\">prequel trilogy<\/a>, many <em>Star Wars<\/em> fans have developed a sort of nostalgia and enthusiasm for these films\u00a0in recent years. This makes sense, considering that this year marks twenty-two years since<em>\u00a0The Phantom Menace<\/em> was released. A whole generation of <em>Star Wars<\/em> fans were children when the prequels came out and were much more enthusiastic and forgiving than the older fans. Much of the fan backlash at the time came from adults, many of whom were children when\u00a0the original trilogy was released\u00a0and felt the prequels didn\u2019t live up to the hype and expectation.<\/p>\n<p>Further media, such as the very popular\u00a0<em>Star Wars: Clone Wars<\/em> cartoon television series, has helped to fuel fans&#8217; appreciation\u00a0for this <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/star-wars-lore-guide-what-happened-each-era\/\">era of the galaxy\u00a0far, far away<\/a>. Disney\u00a0seems eager to cater to this market, considering<em> Ewan McGregor <\/em>and Hayden Christensen\u00a0are set to reprise\u00a0their prequel roles as Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker\/Darth Vader for the upcoming Disney Plus series\u00a0<em>Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/em>. There was even a rumor at one time that Jar Jar Binks himself could make an appearance on\u00a0the show.<\/p>\n<p>Who knows, maybe the years have been hard on Jar Jar Binks and he\u2019s taken a turn to the dark side? He is, after all, to blame\u00a0for helping give then-Chancellor Sheev Palpatine\u00a0emergency powers, thus laying the groundwork for his future\u00a0reign as Emperor.
