That may change this year, as a developer from Respawn says that 120 FPS in\u00a0<em>Apex<\/em> is a \u201chigh priority\u201d for the developer.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Respawn spoke with fans and answered their questions about <em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/apex-legends\/\">Apex Legends<\/a><\/em>. Topics ranged from confirming that <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/apex-legends-caustic-nerf-season-8\/\">a Caustic nerf is on the way soon<\/a>, to discussing the possibility of adding a Ranked Duos Mode. Given that the new consoles have been out for a few months now, it was natural that someone would ask if <em>Apex <\/em>was going to receive any updates that would take advantage of the new hardware.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/apex-legends-ranked-duos\/\">Apex Legends Dev Addresses Possibility of Adding Ranked Duos Queue<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Steve Ferreira, who is the team director at <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/apex-legends-respawn-vancouver-studio\/\">Respawn\u2019s newly-created Vancouver studio<\/a>,\u00a0explained what is going on behind the scenes in the recent Reddit AMA. Ferreira says that the developer is looking at balancing new features with what it \u201cthink[s] is best for the overall player experience.&#8221; Respawn&#8217;s\u00a0emphasis on how <i>Apex<\/i>\u00a0feels means that 120 FPS is \u201chigh on the priority list.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/apexlegends\/comments\/ldfgmq\/respawn_here_we_just_shipped_season_8_mayhem_ask\/gm5mby0?utm_source=share&#038;utm_medium=web2x&#038;context=3\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Rival battle royale <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fortnite-120-fps-support-update\/\"><em>Fortnite<\/em> received an update for 120 FPS support in December<\/a> of last year, the caveat being that it lowers the resolution from 2160p to 1440p for PS5 and Xbox Series X while the less-powerful Xbox Series S goes from 1200p to 1080p when enabling 120 FPS. While both <em>Apex Legends\u00a0<\/em>and <em>Fortnite <\/em>are similar in many ways, <em>Fortnite <\/em>runs on Epic Games\u2019 own Unreal Engine, whereas <em>Apex <\/em>runs on Valve\u2019s Source Engine, so there are no guarantees that <em>Apex <\/em>will end up with the same feature set as <em>Fortnite<\/em> just because they are both battle royales.<\/p>\n<p>Many players in the replies to Ferreira\u2019s comment said that they would gladly trade resolution for the boost in framerate. But judging by Ferreira\u2019s comments, it sounds like any next-gen updates are still a ways off.
