Sony Pictures could soon be welcoming Keanu Reeves into its ever-growing\u00a0<\/strong>Spider-Man\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>universe. According to Illuminerdi, The studio has reportedly approached T<\/em>he<\/em>\u00a0Matrix <\/em>star\u00a0and formally offered him the role of Kraven the Hunter in his very own solo film; however, it remains unclear if Reeves will accept.<\/p>\n

Former reports indicate that director J.C. Chandor, who has helmed films such as\u00a0Triple Frontier<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0A Most Violent Year<\/em>, was in talks with Reeves\u00a0on the project, simply named Kraven<\/em>. If Reeves accepts the role, it will be his first superhero movie role since portraying John Constantine in the 2005 DC film.<\/p>\n

Sony Pictures has been riding on the momentum of its recent\u00a0Spider-Man<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>successes, and rightfully so.\u00a0Homecoming,<\/em>\u00a0Far From Home,<\/em> and\u00a0Venom\u00a0<\/em>ended up being\u00a0three of the studio’s highest-grossing films in its history, so it only made sense for the studio to continue expanding the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters (SPUMC).\u00a0According to Illuminerdi, the project\u00a0could very well be a “mashup” of R-rated titles\u00a0Logan<\/em> and\u00a0Man on Fire.\u00a0<\/em>Richard Wenk, who previously wrote\u00a0The Equalizer\u00a0<\/em>films for Sony, has reportedly written the initial script for\u00a0Kraven,<\/em>\u00a0pulling from the comic book storyline Kraven’s Last Hunt<\/em>.\u00a0Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad are also set to produce.<\/p>\n

Despite delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Sony Pictures continues to move forward with plans for other SPUMC projects such as\u00a0Morbius<\/em> and\u00a0Venom: Let There Be Carnage<\/em><\/a>, which both have expected release dates in 2021 and 2022 respectively. There is also\u00a0a\u00a0Dusk<\/em> film<\/a>\u00a0on the way, as well as an unconfirmed, secret Marvel film spearheaded by Olivia Wilde, which many believe is a Spider-Woman solo film<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Currently, an untitled\u00a0Spider-Man 3\u00a0<\/em><\/a>is in production, and there are rumors that Kraven the Hunter could make an appearance in the film, even if just to introduce his character. In the casting description,\u00a0a character is\u00a0described as a man of Russian origin with “superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility, and reflexes.” He is a “maniacal big-game hunter” specifically hunting for Spider-Man. If\u00a0John Wick<\/em> taught us anything, it’s that Keanu Reeves plays one hell of a good hunter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sony’s next release,\u00a0Venom: Let There Be Carnage<\/em>, is set to open in theatres on June 25 this year, followed by the Marvel-co-produced\u00a0Spider-Man 3<\/em> on December 17 and\u00a0Morbius\u00a0<\/em>on January 21, 2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n
