Following in the footsteps of\u00a0The Mandalorian<\/em> is a new Star Wars<\/strong><\/em><\/a> series\u00a0titled\u00a0Andor<\/strong><\/em>, starring Diego Luna as the titular rebel. The show, which is one of the several Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0projects\u00a0currently in development for Disney Plus, has just named its crew of directors to take the reins of the Rogue One<\/em> prequel.<\/p>\n

According to Discussing Film, Ben Caron and Susanna White have been hired to direct some of the\u00a0Andor<\/em> episodes. Both have a wealth of directorial experience under their belts, with Caron known for his work in\u00a0The Crown<\/a>, Skins,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Sherlock<\/em>, and White for her work in\u00a0Nanny McPhee Returns, Masters of Sex, Billions<\/em>, and HBO’s\u00a0Generation Kill<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The hiring of the pair comes as Disney Plus continues to focus its efforts on expanding the\u00a0Star Wars\u00a0<\/em>universe, with\u00a0Andor<\/em> just about ready to start production (massive sets with green screens have been spotted<\/a> in the midst of construction over in the UK). Joining them is Tony Gilroy, the\u00a0Rogue One<\/em> co-writer who created the series. The highly-anticipated\u00a0Rogue One<\/em> spin-off will follow Luna’s Cassian Andor in a 12-episode, “nail-biting spy-thriller” epic.<\/p>\n

Not many details about the plot have been revealed as of yet, but we do know that Luna will be accompanied on-screen by Stellan Skarsgard, Adria Arjona<\/a>, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, and Genevieve O’Reilly, who will reprise her role as Rebel Alliance founder Mon Mothma. The story will follow Andor’s life before\u00a0Rogue One<\/em>, where he ultimately died embracing Jyn Erso while the Death Star’s laser\u00a0fired upon then on the planet\u00a0Scarif.<\/p>\n

Perhaps one of the more pressing questions Star Wars<\/em> fans have is\u00a0whether or not\u00a0Andor<\/em> will include\u00a0K-2SO, the reprogrammed Imperial droid who worked alongside\u00a0Jyn and Cassian in\u00a0Rogue One<\/em>. When K-2SO actor Alan Tudyk was asked if he knew whether or not he would be included in the upcoming series, he said that the story Gilroy was penning did not include K-2SO<\/a> and that he was definitely “not going to be in the first season.”<\/p>\n

However, there is still a chance K-2SO will be written in for future seasons, so fans will just have to wait and see. Aside from\u00a0Andor<\/em>, Disney Plus is also working on\u00a0The Acolyte<\/em>, The Book of Boba Fett, <\/em>and\u00a0an\u00a0Ahsoka Tano solo project<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Andor<\/strong><\/em> is currently in pre-production and will premiere on Disney Plus in 2022.<\/p>\n
