And yet, there were many characters that didn\u2019t have a definitive conclusion, while certain others had such a deep connection to Kratos that their story can still be expanded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sony-playstation-franchises-ranked-units-sold\/\">Sony: 10 Greatest PlayStation Franchises, Ranked According To Units Sold<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To this end, the next game can bring back many Greek Gods that have already been featured. These were seen in the original series, with some having been killed off by Kratos while others went absent inexplicably with no explanation. Regardless, all of them can play a crucial role in potential storylines in the sequel.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">10 <\/span>Athena<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/God-of-War-Athena.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Athena did appear in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God of War<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> PS4, although it was just for a cameo. <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/god-of-war-kratos-strongest-allies\/\">Once the greatest of Kratos\u2019 allies<\/a>, Athena was revealed as an antagonist at the end of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God of War III<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The way the next game can use her is by making Athena a recurring antagonist for Kratos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rather than the occasional reference, Athena should return the same way she did in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God of War <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PS4, only this time being a constant menace to Kratos as a reminder to him of his actions in the Greek World. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">9 <\/span>Artemis<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Artemis-Cropped.v1.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Artemis\u2019 role in the Titanomachy <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/god-war-storylines-unresolved\/\">remains an unresolved storyline<\/a>, as she never reappeared after her first and only appearance in the first <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God of War<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Since she was shown to be a fierce God who boasted about slaying Titans, she can return with a vengeance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Artemis can be shown having developed a hatred for Kratos after his hand at ending the Olympians. With this in mind, she can be a recurring antagonist who tries to go after Kratos and Atreus as a bid for her revenge and even look to stake her claim among the Norse Gods.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">8 <\/span>Aphrodite<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Aphrodite.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her role in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God of War III<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was reduced to <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/open-world-games-best-side-quests-ranked\/\">being a side mission of sorts<\/a>, with Aphrodite also one of the gods who didn\u2019t perish in the game. She can return as an additional character in the next game, with the potential of her interactions with Atreus and the reformed Kratos certainly something that sounds humorous.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aphrodite can be shown in a different light, in that she can be portrayed as a shadow of her former self after her life of hedonism was destroyed along with the Olympians. To this end, Aphrodite even has the potential for character development.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">7 <\/span>Zeus<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/God-of-War-Zeus.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zeus\u2019 apparition appeared in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God of War <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PS4, with <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/god-war-ragnarok-unresolved-questions-answer\/\">his status remaining unresolved<\/a>. The story of his memory haunting Kratos wasn\u2019t built upon as much as it could have in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God of War <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PS4, so the next game can go forward with the character.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">6 <\/span>Eos<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Eos-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eos appeared in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God of War: Chains of Olympus<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as the Goddess of Dawn, which doesn\u2019t sound like a job that would be active anymore after Helios\u2019 death. Still, she was never killed, and with her role being just as important in the Norse world, Eos can make a return.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She was one of the few to be able to appeal to Kratos without igniting his fury or contempt. To this end, a return in the next game sounds promising since she can have a connection to the reformed version of Kratos.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">5 <\/span>Morpheus<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Morpheus-Cropped-1.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Atreus showed the power of being able to see visions in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God of War <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PS4, which happened when he was asleep. <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/god-of-war-five-atreus\/\">One of the expectations from Atreus<\/a> is for this aspect to be expanded, and Morpheus would be perfect in this regard due to being the God of Dreams.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was never shown in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God of War: Chains of Olympus<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0but caused the gods to go into a deep slumber. He can resurface in the next game, this time preying on Atreus during his sleep as a way to take over the Nordic realms.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">4 <\/span>Hades<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Hades-God-of-war-1-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hades doesn\u2019t need to appear as a living character, as his death was pretty final in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God of War III<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. However, Kratos was shown consuming his soul, meaning there\u2019s a chance that Hades\u2019 essence lives on within Kratos himself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This can be adapted further in the next game, where Hades can appear as part of Kratos\u2019 psyche. He can be the manifestation of Hel for Kratos, with Hades being empowered to resurface due to the environment of the Nordic underworld favoring him. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">3 <\/span>Hephaestus<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Hephaestus-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The best way for Hephaestus to return is through the use of flashbacks. Along with that, Kratos can remember how Hephaestus was prepared to do anything to save Pandora, giving him posthumous respect as Kratos finally understands what Hephaestus was going through.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">2 <\/span>Thanatos<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Thanatos-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s no doubt that <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/god-war-major-things-led-ragnarok\/\">the lead-up to Ragnarok<\/a> will be paved with a number of deaths. Thanatos was the God of Death in the Greek world, whom Kratos and his brother put an end to. Still, that doesn\u2019t mean Thanatos can\u2019t return in some shape or form.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was a fiendish creature in his true form, which can be used as one of the visions Kratos sees in the Norse world as part of his inner demons. Thanatos could resurface in full due to his status as the God of Death, where his return would be to gain revenge on Kratos by going after his son.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"item-title\"><span class=\"item-num\">1 <\/span>Ares<\/h2>\n<figure><img src='https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Ares-God-Of-War-Cropped.jpg' \/><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ares is the God who began Kratos\u2019 descent into the lowest depths of the Greek world. One of <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/god-war-ragnarok-story-theories\/\">the storylines the next game can have<\/a> is Ares being the one to torment Kratos as Zeus did in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God of War<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> PS4.
