Due to being one of the final movies audiences were even allowed to see in theaters, it racked up a pretty nice box office revenue that guaranteed a sequel would be in cards as soon as filming became feasible.<\/p>\n<p>So ever since there have been rumors, murmurs, and behind-the-scenes\u00a0details about what might come in the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sonic-hedgehog-2-production-fun-codename\/\">Blue Blur&#8217;s next silver screen rendezvous<\/a>. Not much has been said officially, but the official Sonic Movie Twitter account has recently come out to announce a title for the film, and audiences may want to sit down for this one: the\u00a0title of the sequel will be\u00a0<em>Sonic the Hedgehog 2<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sonic-hedgehog-animated-series-netflix\/\">Netflix Announces New Sonic the Hedgehog Animated Series<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ok, so it&#8217;s not exactly the most original title in the world, but there&#8217;s something to be said for straightforward numbering as well. Even the announcement itself poked fun at the name, opening the Tweet with &#8220;Groundbreaking. Thought-provoking. Extremely obvious.&#8221; The announcement also came with a quick pick at the film&#8217;s logo, which features very familiar\u00a0<em>Sonic the Hedgehog<\/em>\u00a0text with a bright yellow &#8220;2&#8221; slapped up on the side, followed by an April 2022 release date.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SonicMovie\/status\/1359517479979134980?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s not everything though, the &#8220;2&#8221; in that logo also has 2 tails attached to it, which any\u00a0fan of the games who is worth their salt will recognize as belonging to <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sonic-the-hedgehog-recurring-tails-voice-actor-wont-reprise-role-sonic-prime\/\">Miles &#8220;Tails&#8221; Prower<\/a>. So, it would seem Tails will be in the\u00a0sequel as well, which isn&#8217;t surprising considering he was teased at the end of the last film, but it&#8217;s nice to see some more confirmation that he&#8217;ll be sticking around.<\/p>\n<p>Not much else has been heard from the film, but <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sonic-movie-actor-ben-schwartz-voice-actor-sonic-hedgehog-games\/\">Ben Schwartz<\/a>, the voice actor for the film version of Sonic, did\u00a0tell Comicbook.com that he had read the script for the sequel and that he was excited, calling it &#8220;awesome.&#8221; Schwartz and\u00a0James Marsden are expected to return for the sequel, as is Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, though the latter has not been officially confirmed yet.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sonic-hedgehog-2-filming-march\/\">It seems like the hype cycle for the Sonic sequel<\/a> is starting to spin up its gears, so fans can expect more news in the future as the production starts making things publicly known.
