Star Wars<\/em> fans are\u00a0often divided, and not only when it comes to deciding which Star Wars\u00a0<\/em>movies are the best<\/a>.\u00a0Star Wars<\/em> games have created longstanding arguments between lovers of the expanded universe, with some preferring older entries like\u00a0Star Wars: Battlefront\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic<\/em>. Gamers with nostalgia for titles of this era likely have cause to celebrate today, as a Nintendo leak possibly revealed the release of the first-person shooter\u00a0Star Wars: Republic Commando\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>on Switch.<\/p>\n

Star Wars: Republic Commando\u00a0<\/em>released in 2005, a couple of months before the George Lucas prequel trilogy would get its final movie,\u00a0Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith<\/em>. The game gave a sneak peek at some vehicles and enemies from\u00a0Episode 3<\/em>, but it also managed to rise above simple teaser material.\u00a0Star Wars: Republic Commando<\/em> has become a cult classic, with gamers praising its squad-based combat and story. While a planned sequel for Star Wars: Republic Commando<\/em>\u00a0was cancelled<\/a>\u00a0sometime in 2010, it looks like Nintendo Switch owners may get to play the original game soon.<\/p>\n

According to Nintendo Everything, update data for\u00a0Star Wars: Republic Commando<\/em> has been uploaded to Nintendo servers, with media company Aspyr listed as the publisher. Aspyr has already brought other Star Wars\u00a0<\/em>games like Jedi Outcast\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Episode 1 Racer\u00a0<\/em>to the Switch, so it makes sense the company could be working on\u00a0Republic Commando<\/em>\u00a0too. Aspyr has been part of a recent wave of companies acquired by Swedish company Embracer Group, which also\u00a0recently merged with Gearbox Studios<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Neither Nintendo nor Aspyr have officially said that\u00a0Star Wars: Republic Commando\u00a0<\/em>will be released for Switch, but game data updates in the past have led to leaks of games such as\u00a0Fortnite\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Paladins<\/em>.\u00a0Fortnite\u00a0<\/em>released for Switch<\/a> on June 12, 2018, less than two weeks after the update data was uploaded to Nintendo’s servers. While there is no guarantee\u00a0Republic Commando\u00a0<\/em>will be ready that quickly, the leak allows for a fair argument that the game is coming sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n

The potential release of\u00a0Star Wars: Republic Commando<\/em> is only a small portion of the great news\u00a0Star Wars<\/em> fans have had to celebrate lately. With Ubisoft’s open-world\u00a0Star Wars<\/em> game in the early stages of development<\/a> and rumors that Aspyr media might also be working on a\u00a0Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic\u00a0<\/em>remake, there’s a lot in the news for fans of\u00a0Star Wars<\/em> games both old and new.<\/p>\n

Star Wars: Republic Commando<\/em><\/strong> is available now for PC and Xbox, with a Switch port rumored to be in development.<\/p>\n
