But Sony has bigger plans for <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/the-last-of-us\/\"><em>The Last of Us<\/em><\/a> than just a sequel. Sony&#8217;s partnered with HBO for the production of a new television show based on <em>The Last of Us<\/em>. Things are already moving along, perhaps faster than expected. The latest evidence of that is the reported confirmation of Ellie&#8217;s actor.<\/p>\n<p>THR is reporting that <em>The Last of Us<\/em> is going to cast a young actor who has made a name for herself in recent years as Lyanna Mormont on <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/game-thrones-animated-series-hbo\/\"><em>Game of Thrones<\/em><\/a> and Angelica in <em>His Dark Materials<\/em>. Her name is Bella Ramsey and she&#8217;s one of the fastest-rising actors in the business. She&#8217;s been a part of multiple films and television shows in 2020. Highlights of the year include voicing <em>Hilda<\/em> in the self-titled cartoon and playing Angelica in <em>His Dark Materials<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/last-of-us-tv-troy-baker-joel-infected\/\">Troy Baker Wants to Be In The Last of Us TV Show But Not as Joel<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/the-last-of-us-hbo-series-greenlight\/\"><em>The Last of Us<\/em>\u00a0TV show<\/a> isn&#8217;t Ramsey&#8217;s only upcoming role, either. She&#8217;s also reported to be starring in the upcoming film <em>Catherine, Called Birdy<\/em> as Birdy. <em>Catherine, Called Birdy<\/em> is being directed by Lena Dunham, best known for writing and directing the comedy\/drama <em>Girls<\/em>. It&#8217;s a historical fiction film based on a 1995 Newbery Honor award winner of the same name. Suffice to say, Ramsey&#8217;s going to be seen and heard quite a bit in the next several years.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HBO\/status\/1235619786278572032\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s unclear exactly how big of a role Ellie will have in <em>The Last of Us<\/em> TV show, of course. Ellie plays a hugely significant role in the first game, but it&#8217;s Joel who is the main protagonist. Ellie then takes on a much larger role in <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/the-last-of-us-2-third-best-selling-playstation-game\/\"><em>The Last of Us 2<\/em> video game<\/a>, which could lead to her having a larger presence in the show. Regardless, Ellie plays an undeniably key role and expectations will be high for Ramsey.<\/p>\n<p>As for Joel, previous reports that he&#8217;d been cast have proven to be unreliable. A rumor that Joel was going to be played by <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mahershala-ali-mcu-blade-fan-art\/\">Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali<\/a> has apparently now been debunked, as also reported by THR. He was apparently considered, but no deal was made. No other actors have since been mentioned as heavily considered.<\/p>\n<p>Fans of television will know, however, that things in the business can change dramatically in a very short amount of time. Ramsey may not end up playing <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/last-us-2-ellie-detail-water-stream\/\">Ellie<\/a>. <em>The Last of Us<\/em> may never actually move into full production.
