Big hits like\u00a0Super Smash Bros.<\/em> include players from across gaming’s most iconic characters, regardless of their affiliation with Nintendo.\u00a0Tekken 7<\/em> includes Akuma from\u00a0Street Fighter<\/em> alongside\u00a0Noctis\u00a0from\u00a0Final Fantasy<\/em><\/a> and Neegan from\u00a0The Walking Dead<\/em>. At this point, anything seems likely for DLC characters in fighting games, and\u00a0Mortal Kombat 11<\/em><\/strong> is definitely no exception. The brutal game features iconic characters like the Joker, the Terminator, and Rambo that run the gamut of properties. Its ties to publisher Warner Bros. leaves the possibilities wide open.<\/p>\n

Mortal Kombat 11<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>is one of the most popular modern fighting games. The continuation of a Hollywood-style blockbuster story mode, addition of unrivaled character customization in the genre, and steady community support have made it one of the best fighting game of the PS4, Xbox One generation<\/a>. Part of the success of\u00a0MK11<\/em> has been due to the steady release of new DLC fighters to further fill in the roster of available Kombatants.<\/p>\n

Iconic movie figures like Rambo and Robocop were made possible partly because of the game’s publisher, Warner Bros. This relationship makes speculation about future DLC fighters an almost ethereal task, with so many big names associated with WB.<\/p>\n

NetherRealm Studios has said previously that\u00a0MK11<\/em> would be the last mainline\u00a0Mortal Kombat<\/em> game for a while, and with that it has done thus far a good job so far of supporting the game. This will be vital to ensuring the game’s lifespan into the future. While some worry that the release of\u00a0Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate<\/em> means that there won’t be any future DLC<\/a>,\u00a0there is no guarantee this will be the case. Rumors about Reptile making his return to the game, as the only missing\u00a0MK2<\/em> character in the roster, are already running rampant. And with NetherRealm’s relationship with Warner Bros., who any future DLC fighter may be is almost anyone’s guess.<\/p>\n

The trend toward crossover characters in\u00a0MK11\u00a0<\/em>began back in the original reboot of\u00a0Mortal Kombat (<\/em>also known as\u00a0MK9)\u00a0<\/em>with the introduction of Freddy Krueger.\u00a0MKX\u00a0<\/em>continued with the introduction of many iconic horror favorites like Jason Voorhees and Leatherface. Many fans have held out hope for more horror characters, with rumors about\u00a0Evil Dead’s<\/em> Ash Williams falling in and out of favor<\/a> online. But Warner Bros. has the rights to many more famous horror icons that would be right at home with the murderous members of\u00a0Mortal Kombat<\/em>. Pennywise the Clown from\u00a0It<\/em> is almost begging to be adapted into the mix, many fans imagining what his shapeshifting moveset would look like alongside fear-driven Fatalities.<\/p>\n

Alongside the horror hopefuls, Warner Bros. also has the rights to other DC characters beyond just the Joker. While there are obvious implications surrounding murder involved with including some of the other DC characters, the popularity of recent releases like\u00a0Justice League Dark: Apokolips War<\/em> show that many fans are fine with seeing more violent iterations of their favorite superheroes. The wise-cracking mage Constantine might feel right at home alongside the evil Shang Tsung. The DC universe is expansive as its long history would suggest and there are many possibilities that some fans have considered like members of the\u00a0Watchmen<\/em> series. DC specifically has a close relationship with NetherRealm, given its development of the\u00a0Injustice<\/em> franchise<\/a>. So the possibility of another DC character isn’t out of the realm of possibility.<\/p>\n

As fans continue to wonder about what to expect from\u00a0Mortal Kombat 11<\/em><\/a> in the coming year, speculation about whether more DLC characters are coming will likely continue. In era where Neegan can fight Eddie Gordo, Sephiroth can battle Donkey Kong, and the Terminator can decimate Spawn, almost anything seems possible going forward. And that’s especially true with\u00a0Mortal Kombat 11.<\/em><\/p>\n
