There aren\u2019t that<\/em> many weapons to choose from in Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em><\/a>, both the original and the remake, at least when compared to similar games. Despite only being released just recently the forums are already filled with comments about how great the Blue Blood Sword or Lava Bow are, and how everyone should be using them.<\/p>\n

In truth, those are both supremely good weapons in Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em>; however, there are numerous weapons that are already getting a reputation for being underrated. A lot of this has to do with a player’s preference in play-style<\/a>. Many players go for a balance of speed, damage, and weapon requirements. The result is that many weapons, towards the edges of the speed-power spectrum, are overlooked.<\/p>\n

10 <\/span>Battle Axe<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

There are a few weapons on this list that most players would consider only marginally underrated \u2013 the Battle Axe is one of those weapons. The axe trades a bit of weapon speed for increased power, and in a game like Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em><\/a> weapon speed is often perceived as more desirable. The Battle Axe does decent damage, isn\u2019t too unwieldy, and best of all it is immensely upgradable. When upgraded to the Dragon Axe, which deals fire damage, or the Demon\u2019s Soul Axe, this weapon is just as potent as any other in the game.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>Hands Of God<\/h2>\n

A lot of players of Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em> pick a sword as their main weapon. Some of this has to do with how iconic swords are. Another reason is they are well-balanced weapons in terms of weapon speed and damage. Players choosing a sword are going to have a tough time against skeletal foes who are resistant to bladed weapons. At times like these players will want a weapon that is quick and capable of dealing bludgeoning damage. Hammers are blunt, but they are also fairly cumbersome. The Hands of God will allow you to smash through a horde of skeletons quickly \u2013 just carry another weapon that is more efficient against armored foes.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Secret Dagger<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

As the saying goes, \u201cSpeed kills\u201d. This is especially true in Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em>. Heavy weapons are great for dealing tremendous damage with only a few blows, but they too often leave the player exposed. Daggers have never been that popular in action-adventure fantasy games. It always feels like you brought a butter knife to a sword fight\u00a0\u2014 that you’re making an already difficult game even harder<\/a>. A good combination is to dual-wield using the Secret Dagger in one hand and a heavier weapon that’s designed to be more effective against armored foes in the other hand. Lastly, the Secret Dagger deals surprisingly good damage… for a dagger.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Penetrating Sword<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Those looking for a second weapon to use with the Secret Dagger could do a lot worse than the Penetrating Sword. It\u2019s quick, deals great damage, and has a good balance of attack patterns \u2013 thrusts, horizontal swings, and vertical swings.<\/p>\n

The Penetrating Sword also has excellent reach, making it a good choice in weapon for player-vs-player fights, as well as for dealing with some of the larger opponents in the game. The only negative aspect of this weapon is the limited upgrade options, but the Cursed Weapon upgrade (one of the best) is available for it. Additionally, this weapon is quite effective when used with a two-handed fighting style.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Gargoyle Crossbow<\/h2>\n

When choosing a distance weapon in Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em>, the Lava Bow is the preferred choice for most players. Crossbows, in games like this, are typically shunned by players because of the slow fire rate. They may have better range than a bow, but bows can be fired so much faster than crossbows that the extra damage of the crossbow is more than negated. The Gargoyle crossbow, however, is actually worth using. Its damage is primarily magic damage, and the weapon gets better when the user has a high Magic rating \u2013 making this a great, yet underrated choice for archers that dabble in magic use<\/a>.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Bramd<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Large, heavy, weapons are not popular weapons in Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em><\/a>. Most players feel they are just too slow and cumbersome, making them more of a liability than anything else. Becoming skilled with the Bramd will change those players’ minds. This large hammer does an incredible amount of damage and can sunder an opponent\u2019s armor and shield. This weapon can also deplete an opponent\u2019s stamina very quickly. The Bramd also provides resistance to poison and plague. This weapon will take some time to get used to. However, it is worth the effort as long as the player is prepared to commit to a Strength build.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Blind<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Blind is a curved sword that has some useful properties that make it worth using. First, this weapon has very low stat requirements to wield. This is also the lightest weapon in the game, making it a very quick weapon in combat. The base damage of Blind is awful, which is the main reason it\u2019s so underrated. However, when fully upgraded Blind does as much damage (or more)\u00a0than the base version of most two-handed weapons. Lastly, Blind has a special ability that sets it apart from other weapons in the game \u2013 it ignores an opponent\u2019s shield completely.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Kris<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The Kris is possibly the best weapon for players that choose a character build that mixes sword-play<\/a> with sorcery. For starters, the Kris has a very low Strength requirement. The Kris also increases the damage of the wielder\u2019s spells, up to +30% when fully upgraded.<\/p>\n

This makes the Kris great for empowering your initial volley of spells, after which it can be swung in battle to kill any opponents left standing. This weapon does a decent amount of damage. Three-quarters of the damage dealt is magical, the remaining damage being physical. Forget Talismans and Catalysts, grab the Kris unless you\u2019re playing a straight magic-user build.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Spiral Rapier<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

A lot of players take one look at the Spiral Rapier\u2019s terrible damage and immediately throw it into storage, proceeding to consider it nothing more than a trophy. This weapon has many great abilities that may make you want to give it a second chance. The Spiral Rapier does bleeding damage in addition to its base damage. In Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em>, where combat is usually a drawn-out affair, bleeding damage provides a strategic advantage. When waiting for an opening to deliver a second strike, the bleeding damage will be slowly weakening your opponent<\/a>. This weapon can be upgraded to also inflict poison damage and better critical hits.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>War Scythe<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

This is probably the most underrated weapon in Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em>. Granted, the War Scythe requires a heavy investment in a character\u2019s Strength and Dexterity before it begins to pay dividends. This weapon\u2019s base damage is good \u2014 about on par with large swords. Its reach, though, is superior to most weapons in the game. When upgraded, the War Scythe can begin inflicting bleeding and poison damage, similar to the Spiral Rapier but with a much longer reach. The War Scythe also has a variety of attack methods. It can be swung in a wide arc or used to thrust (like a rapier).<\/p>\n
