Now, a fan-made video offers a side-by-side\u00a0comparison of the upcoming 2021 film and\u00a0its 1962 Japanese counterpart,\u00a0<em>King Kong vs. Godzilla<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In the video, uploaded to YouTube by the channel FALLEN, both trailers play simultaneously, with the 1962 version edited to resemble the 2021 update. Watching the\u00a0footage from both films\u00a0side by side really\u00a0shows\u00a0just how far these two infamous giant <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/paul-feig-universal-monster-movie-update\/\">movie monsters<\/a> have come.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/godzilla-vs-kong-looks-exactly-like-batman-v-superman\/\">\u2018Godzilla vs. Kong\u2019 Looks Exactly Like \u2018Batman v Superman\u2019<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Godzilla vs. Kong<\/em> will be\u00a0the fourth installment of Legendary\u2019s \u2018MonsterVerse\u2019 franchise. Previous entries in Legendary&#8217;s cinematic universe include\u00a0<em>Godzilla (2014)<\/em>, <em>Kong: Skull Island (2017),<\/em> and <em>Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)<\/em>. <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/super-bowl-trailers-ranked\/\">Based on the trailer<\/a>, it seems like the 2021 film will mainly be a sequel to <em>Godzilla: King of the Monsters<\/em>, with actors Millie Bobby Brown and Kyle Chandler reprising their roles from the previous movie.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"200\" height=\"113\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/awGcJp8fDJc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Watching the two trailers also gives you a sense of how different a movie about two giant monsters looks today compared to the early &#8217;60s. A huge percentage of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/godzilla-vs-kong-trailer-dropped\/\"><em>Godzilla vs. Kong<\/em> trailer<\/a> is composed of shots that are either mostly or entirely CGI while the 1962 version is done entirely with practical effects, as two stuntmen\u00a0duke it out in costumes on a miniature\u00a0set. Regardless of the modern-day feats in digital filmmaking, the 1962 version certainly has\u00a0its charm and admittedly looks like a lot of\u00a0fun.\u00a0Perhaps when the 2021 <em>Godzilla vs. Kong<\/em> is released later this year, fans will do a double feature of the two films.<\/p>\n<p>It also serves as a reminder of how much the film industry\u00a0recycles old ideas and updates them for newer audiences. This is, after all, the 36th film in the <em>Godzilla<\/em> movie franchise and the 12th for <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/godzilla-kong-axe-bone-hilt-monster-who\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the mighty King Kong<\/a>. Although the two films bear similar names and concepts, producer Alex Garcia has gone on the record to say that the film is not a remake.<\/p>\n<p><em>Godzilla vs. Kong<\/em> is just one of many big-name Hollywood films to have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/godzilla-vs-kong-release-date-pushed-back\/\">constantly-shifting release dates<\/a> due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The film was originally slated to come out in\u00a02020, shifting around from March 13th, May 22nd, May 29th, November 20th, until it was finally pushed back to May 21st, 2021.
