While the project is still in its early stages, it is exciting to imagine where fans could take Sora and friends in the future.<\/p>\n<p>The <em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/kingdom-hearts\/\">Kingdom Hearts<\/a><\/em> series tends to incorporate pre-existing films into its story in a modular way, which\u00a0is a good fit for fan projects. Namely, Sora and his allies fight their way through retellings of each film over the course of a couple of hours. Along the way, the party often gains a guest party member from the film, and when the day is saved, Sora flies off to another world. While this formula has produced <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/kingdom-hearts-best-worlds-all-games\/\">some incredible <em>Kingdom Hearts<\/em> levels<\/a>, they have all been drawn from Square Enix properties, Disney properties, or created specifically for\u00a0<em>Kingdom Hearts<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/video-game-levels-2019-best-top\/\">15 Best Video Game Levels of 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Reddit user lions_in_09 shared a <em>Dreams<\/em>\u00a0screenshot of Sora exploring a world based on\u00a0Duloc, the realm featured in the iconic 2001 film\u00a0<em>Shrek<\/em>. Excitingly, Shrek appears to serve as a party member, replacing Donald. Unfortunately,\u00a0lions_in_09\u00a0gives no indication of how Shrek fights, or how he would help Sora. Given that many of <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/kingdom-hearts-best-character-cameos\/\">the best-loved <em>Kingdom Hearts<\/em> character cameos<\/a>\u00a0are valued because of their contributions to combat,\u00a0Shrek will hopefully have some interesting tricks up his sleeve.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/KingdomHearts\/comments\/ljab4y\/started_working_on_a_shrek_kh_world_in_dreams\/\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Still, it&#8217;s hard to imagine how Shrek&#8217;s trademark crude humor and pop culture references could co-exist with\u00a0<em>Kingdom Hearts<\/em>&#8216; tone. In pre-existing Disney worlds, the game creators circumvent pop culture references even when they were a major part of the corresponding films. For example, Aladdin&#8217;s Genie references other franchises and actors constantly in the film, but doesn&#8217;t do so in\u00a0<em>Kingdom Hearts<\/em>. Of course, setting their approaches to humor aside,\u00a0<em>Shrek<\/em> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/kingdom-hearts-things-franchise-gets-away-with\/\"><em>Kingdom Hearts<\/em> are both offbeat and weird<\/a>. While Shrek might not attack enemies with flatulence when aiding Sora, Duloc could still be a weird place filled with satirical depictions of classic fairy tale characters.<\/p>\n<p>While DreamWorks films like\u00a0<em>Shrek<\/em> are still off-limits for the\u00a0<em>Kingdom Hearts<\/em> developers, Disney&#8217;s recent acquisitions mean some iconic animated properties are fair game. This includes Fox films like\u00a0<em>Ice Age<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Rio<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>Robots<\/em>, each of which could make for an interesting world for Sora to explore. As <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/disney-plus-24-lost-die-hard\/\">Disney+ expands its offerings to include Fox content<\/a>, it is only appropriate that\u00a0<em>Kingdom Hearts<\/em> consider doing so as well.<\/p>\n<p>While the fan-made\u00a0<em>Shrek<\/em>\u00a0scenario isn&#8217;t an official part of the franchise, there are signs that future\u00a0<em>Kingdom Hearts<\/em> worlds could be very different than what came before. Namely, <em>Kingdom Hearts 4<\/em> will likely take place in <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/kingdom-hearts-4-quadratum-vs-final-fantasy-15-insomnia-cities\/\">Quadratum, a mysterious Tokyo-like realm<\/a>\u00a0that could blend elements from many famous Square Enix titles.
