The new update will see the addition of a Battle Pass, multiplayer content, weapons, and more to the game on February 25.<\/p>\n<p>Developer Treyarch&#8217;s\u00a0fifth entry\u00a0in its\u00a0<em>Black Ops\u00a0<\/em>series launched on November 13. The game has been met with\u00a0a fairly positive\u00a0reception, with some players praising its innovative campaign, though others are\u00a0critical of ongoing online gameplay issues. While the franchise does harbor its fair share of critics,\u00a0<em>Call of Duty<\/em> is as successful as its ever been, with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-best-selling-all-time\/\"><em>Black Ops Cold War<\/em> now one of the best-selling games ever<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-3d-audio-system\/\">Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War 3D Audio System Detailed<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The announcement for\u00a0<em>Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/em>&#8216;s Season 2 comes in the form of a two-minute long cinematic trailer. The beginning of the video sees a helicopter flying above the jungles of Laos, where a team led by Frank Woods is looking for a landing zone. Serving as a direct follow-up to the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-season-2-story-cutscene-preview\/\">Season 2 story cutscene Treyarch released<\/a> a few days ago, Woods and company are on a rescue mission for Adler, who\u00a0has been captured by old adversary Stitch at The Pines. The trailer showcases a new Perseus Operator named Naga, who appears to be holding a new SMG coming to the game; one of several new weapons featured in the video.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"200\" height=\"113\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JzOrZVpuJH8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Aside from furthering\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war\/\"><em>Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/em><\/a>&#8216;s post-launch narrative, the Season 2 trailer heavily showcases a variety of new (to\u00a0<em>Black Ops Cold War<\/em>) weapons. First and foremost, many fans are likely delighted to see the return of the iconic Mini-Gun. Having been absent from the game so far, the overpowered\u00a0gun\u00a0could be one of the Scorestreaks for the second season. Also spotted in the trailer were the fan-favorite Crossbow and Galil, adding a dynamic mix of weaponry assuming Activision plays all of the cards they&#8217;ve shown.<\/p>\n<p><em>Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/em> seems to be a bit more heavily focused on expanding its story and content than it is about competitive online gameplay. Though barely out for a week, the backlash surrounding the game&#8217;s League Play has been severe, with many gamers complaining\u00a0about skill-based matchmaking, weapon restrictions, and more. The criticism has grown fervent enough\u00a0to cause a <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-league-play-backlash-response\/\"><em>Black Ops Cold War<\/em>\u00a0developer to publicly respond<\/a>, so there&#8217;s potential for some League Play changes to be rolled out along with the start of Season 2.<\/p>\n<p>While\u00a0<em>Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War<\/em> is one of the most successful entries in the franchise thus far, there are some\u00a0<em>CoD<\/em> fans that prefer the games from specific developers.\u00a0The last two years saw games made by longtime series creators Infinity Ward and Treyarch respectively, which leads many to think Sledgehammer Games will helm the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/call-of-duty-2021-title-guerrilla-warfare\/\"><em>Call of Duty<\/em> 2021 title<\/a>.
