The change in question deals with McCree, as his <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/overwatch-2\/\"><em>Overwatch 2<\/em><\/a> look has split the community.<\/p>\n<p>One of the <em>Overwatch<\/em> franchise\u2019s most popular characters, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/overwatch-mccree-halloween-highlight-skyrim\/\">the gunslinger McCree<\/a> is known for his trusty revolver and his iconic \u201cit\u2019s High Noon\u201d dialogue. However, a small part of the <em>Overwatch<\/em> community has been debating about McCree\u2019s race for years, as nothing has officially been said regarding the hero\u2019s ethnicity. Though the hero has often appeared as a Caucasian man with a deep tan, some have argued that this tan could hint at some Native American or Hispanic heritage.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/overwatch-2-hero-missions\/\">Overwatch 2 Will Have &#8216;Hundreds&#8217; of Hero Missions<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>With this in mind, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/overwatch-2-new-looks-mccree-pharah-reaper-widowmaker\/\">McCree\u2019s recently revealed redesign<\/a> has sparked some heated discussion and frustrated a part of the <em>Overwatch<\/em> fan base. While the fuller beard and haircut have been positively received, and the new armor is well-liked due to an increase in detail, McCree\u2019s skin tone has sparked debate. The hero\u2019s tan has been removed, removing any ambiguity and seemingly confirming that McCree is fully white. While many find this unsurprising, just as many are bothered by the change, with Twitter user @larsaddams joking that the hero was hit with the \u201ccaucasification beam.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/larsaddams\/status\/1362968318177513474?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Others have focused closely on this <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/overwatch-mccree-skin-concept-toy-story-woody\/\">change to McCree<\/a>, with Twitter user @Matt_Apparently saying that the removal of McCree\u2019s tan makes them feel \u201cuncomfortable.\u201d Several commenters agree, arguing that the skin tone changing in Animated Shorts and comic book appearances has been a consistent issue. At the same time, Twitter user @JT14576 makes the argument that this increased paleness is simply caused by the lighting, a valid argument given the white background where the redesigned heroes are shown off.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JT14576\/status\/1362994088077893634?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Some <em>Overwatch<\/em> players love the design, though, as those that always viewed McCree as Caucasian are indifferent to the tan\u2019s possible removal. More focused on the improvements to the cloth on McCree\u2019s poncho and the changes to his actual design, an equally sizable portion of the fan base views McCree\u2019s new look as being just as good as <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/overwatch-2-new-hero-designs\/\">the other <em>Overwatch<\/em> redesigns<\/a>. Twitter user @HumbertSobek voices their approval of this McCree while sharing a drawing of the cowboy, with the post being liked by over 2,500 fans. With <em>Overwatch 2<\/em>&#8216;s take on McCree seeming to work well for many fans, this debate is likely to continue for some time.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HumbertSobek\/status\/1363021526660911104?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It remains to be seen if Blizzard addresses this issue in a <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/overwatch-2-updates-frequent\/\">future <em>Overwatch 2<\/em>\u00a0developer update<\/a> or chooses to keep the redesign of McCree as is.
