Capcom’s\u00a0Street Fighter 2 Turbo<\/em><\/strong> is regarded as the turning point in the\u00a0Street Fighter 2<\/em> series, introducing several mechanics and characters that would remain a staple to the\u00a0series to this day. As\u00a0Street Fighter<\/a><\/em>\u00a0remains one of Capcom’s flagship series,\u00a0the games in the series are often included in compilations offered by Capcom, some of which are dedicated to the\u00a0Street Fighter<\/em> games exclusively.<\/p>\n

One such recent compilation\u00a0revealed\u00a0during last week’s Nintendo Direct was the\u00a0Capcom Arcade Stadium<\/em>, featuring 32 entries from Capcom’s vast arcade library released between 1984 and 2001.\u00a0Street Fighter 2<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>was released during the mid-90s when various forms of imagery and symbolism which were common at the time have now been modernized for the newest compilation. One of the\u00a0significant changes over the years was the depiction of the Hong Kong flag.<\/p>\n

Originally released in 1994 to arcades,\u00a0Street Fighter 2 Turbo<\/em> introduced newcomer Fei Long, a Bruce Lee-inspired<\/a> martial artist who hailed from Hong Kong. A staple that began in\u00a0Street Fighter 2<\/em> and carried on in subsequent titles was the inclusion of each fighter’s place of origin coupled with their\u00a0respective country’s flag. In the original arcade release, the British Hong Kong flag was used until the transfer of sovereignty in 1997. From 1997 onward, the current Hong Kong flag was used up to this point, where it was changed to the flag of China following the release of\u00a0Capcom Arcade Stadium<\/em>.<\/p>\n
