Since then, fans have been wondering if the other games in the\u00a0<em>Gears of War<\/em> series may one day get a similar treatment. A recent tweet by the official\u00a0<em>Gears of War<\/em> Twitter page kicked up rumors that a\u00a0<em><strong>Gears of War 2<\/strong><\/em> remaster could be next in line, but those rumors have since been put to rest.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Gears of War<\/em> Twitter page showed an image of someone holding some loose COG tags, which are the\u00a0<em>Gears of War<\/em> universe equivalent of military dog tags. The image was somewhat reminiscent of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/gears-of-war-2\/\"><em>Gears of War 2<\/em><\/a> cover art, so speculation started running rampant that it was a legitimate tease for\u00a0<em>Gears of War 2 Remastered<\/em>. Instead of letting fans have false hope, the\u00a0<em>Gears of War\u00a0<\/em>Twitter account shut the rumors down, saying, &#8220;We LOVE the enthusiasm&#8230;but we are all\u00a0<em>Gears 5<\/em> up over here.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/gears-war-studio-coalition-reportedly-assisted-halo-infinite-development\/\">Gears of War Studio The Coalition Reportedly Assisted With Halo Infinite Development<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Fan reaction to this has been mixed. Some are relieved that The Coalition will instead be working on the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/gears-war-6-wishlist\/\">inevitable\u00a0<em>Gears of War 6<\/em><\/a> and continuing its support for\u00a0<em>Gears 5<\/em>, while others feel let down because they wanted to play a\u00a0<em>Gears of War 2<\/em> remaster. But now that the fans have displayed an appetite for such a game, maybe Microsoft will reconsider the possibility.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GearsofWar\/status\/1364127002224123904\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Like the first game,\u00a0<em>Gears of War 2<\/em> was critically-acclaimed and a best-seller for Xbox. It made a number of major innovations for the franchise, adding bots to the offline versus multiplayer modes and introducing the world to Horde mode.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/gears-5-horde-mode-review\/\"><em>Gears of War 2<\/em>&#8216;s Horde mode<\/a> has been hugely influential in shooter games, with countless other titles copying it and trying to replicate its success.<\/p>\n<p><em>Gears of War 2<\/em> had a profound impact on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/every-gears-war-game-ranked\/\"><em>Gears of War<\/em> franchise<\/a>, and is quite easily one of the most important games in the series. It was also notable for having an even darker storyline than the first game, shining a big spotlight on Dom and his missing wife, and not shying away from killing off main characters. Considering how integral it is in the\u00a0<em>Gears of War<\/em> timeline, it&#8217;s not surprising that fans were excited at the possibility of a\u00a0<em>Gears of War 2<\/em> remaster.<\/p>\n<p>While a\u00a0proper\u00a0<em>Gears of War 2<\/em> remaster may not be in the works, the game is still playable on modern consoles.
