Thanks to a new interview between PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan and GQ Magazine, fans know a lot more about the future slate of the PS5, including the fact it will get a new VR headset and that\u00a0Ratchet and Clank\u00a0<\/em>will be free during March<\/a> thanks to the Play at Home Initiative. The interview also revealed some more disappointing news, confirming that\u00a0Gran Turismo 7\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>has officially been delayed\u00a0to 2022.<\/p>\n

The announcement came after GQ posed\u00a0a question regarding the racing game’s release date to Ryan, with a fellow representative of\u00a0PlayStation<\/a> promising\u00a0to offer a statement answering the question at a later date. That statement eventually revealed that issues relating to the pandemic have delayed the sequel. Further news on the game’s release will allegedly be shared “when available,” so those wanting additional details on\u00a0its status might have to wait\u00a0a little\u00a0longer.<\/p>\n

The reason for the delay is once again due to difficulties imposed by the pandemic, with PlayStation claiming that “COVID-related production challenges” have resulted in the 2022 release. “With the ongoing pandemic, it\u2019s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months,” the\u00a0statement claims, promising more information on\u00a0Gran Turismo 7<\/em><\/a>\u00a0will be shared\u00a0<\/em>in the future. The racing game will join a number of significant\u00a0releases that have been pushed back this year, including\u00a0Hogwarts Legacy, <\/em>the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time<\/em>\u00a0remake, and\u00a0The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.<\/em><\/p>\n

The game is slated to\u00a0be the\u00a0eighth official entry in the series and the first to grace the PlayStation 5, with early trailers already highlighting its striking visuals and realistic racing gameplay. It’s touted\u00a0as something of a return to\u00a0Gran Turismo’s\u00a0<\/em>roots<\/a>, focusing on\u00a0reinstating\u00a0fan-favorite features such as\u00a0simulation mode, tuning parts shops, and GT Auto. It will allegedly also integrate the\u00a0PlayStation 5’s advanced features, including immersive haptic feedback through the DualSense controller, 3D spatial audio, and ray-tracing. The game’s sure to be an exhilarating\u00a0showcase of the advanced hardware of Sony’s newest console.<\/p>\n

With\u00a0Gran Turismo 7\u00a0<\/em>now officially a 2022 release, it’s looking more and more like next year will be a significant period for video game fans. The year already boasts the likes of\u00a0Justice League: Kill the Suicide Squad, The Callisto Protocol, Hogwarts Legacy,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Splatoon 3<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>with plenty more titles sure to join that lineup. Although, that’s not to say 2021 doesn’t also sport an exciting\u00a0library\u00a0of upcoming gaming experiences, including\u00a0Horizon: Forbidden West, Halo Infinite, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart,\u00a0<\/em>Resident Evil Village, Monster Hunter Rise,\u00a0<\/em>and the next\u00a0God of War.<\/em><\/p>\n

Gran Turismo\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>will release on PlayStation 5 in 2022.<\/p>\n
