This allows players to not only enjoy the classic turn-based battles that the genre has become known for, but also develop a deep understanding and affinity for the characters in the game. While\u00a0the\u00a0<em>Persona\u00a0<\/em>series is one of a kind, fans looking for similar games with\u00a0an emphasis on social aspects should give some other JRPG titles a try.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/every-animal-mascot-persona-franchise-persona-6-break\/\">Every Animal Mascot in Persona, and Why Persona 6 Should Break From It<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/6-The-Legend-of-Heroes-Trails-of-Cold-Steel-IV.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Despite being one of the\u00a0lesser known JRPG series in the West,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/legend-of-heroes-trails-of-cold-steel-4-switch-release-date\/\">the\u00a0<em>Trails\u00a0<\/em>franchise has become one of the hallmarks<\/a> in the genre for its detailed worldbuilding and complex characterizations. The\u00a0<em>Trails\u00a0<\/em>series is unique in that all of its games are interconnected, meaning that characters and plotlines from previous arcs will carry over to future ones.\u00a0As the games all take place within a few years of each other, the overarching narrative involves almost all of the characters to some extent. Players that enjoy spending time interacting with different characters and building bonds with party members will find plenty to love in the\u00a0<em>Trails\u00a0<\/em>series.<\/p>\n<p>Although the entire franchise\u00a0has been around since 2004 with the release of <em>Trails in the Sky<\/em>, it wasn&#8217;t until\u00a0the\u00a0<em>Trails of Cold Steel\u00a0<\/em>arc that developer Nihon Falcom decided to introduce social simulation elements. While it&#8217;s highly recommended to start the saga from the beginning,\u00a0the later entries in the series are the ones that heavily emphasize the social link and bonding event systems much like\u00a0<em>Persona\u00a0<\/em>games.<\/p>\n<p>Featuring protagonist Rean Schwarzer and his classmates in a military academy,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/trails-rpg-2021\/\"><em>Trails of Cold Steel\u00a0<\/em>allows players\u00a0to immerse themselves<\/a> in a daily school routine whenever there&#8217;s downtime.\u00a0<em>Persona\u00a0<\/em>fans looking for a JRPG series in a school setting with a heavy emphasis on social bonding should look no further than\u00a0<em>Trails of Cold Steel.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static3.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/fire-emblem-three-hosues.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Although\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fire-emblem-fates-ambitions-set-stage-three-houses-success\/\"><em>Fire Emblem: Three Houses\u00a0<\/em>has more of a tactical approach<\/a> to the JRPG genre compared to\u00a0<em>Persona<\/em>, it shares a number of similarities that fans will enjoy. Taking on the role of Byleth, a former mercenary turned professor, players will guide a house of students through classes and battles. Much like previous\u00a0<em>Fire Emblem\u00a0<\/em>games, the core combat features a turn-based tactical system where players control different units in strategic combat. However,\u00a0<em>Fire Emblem: Three Houses\u00a0<\/em>also introduced social simulation\u00a0and time management elements unique to the game.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/fire-emblem-three-houses-best-high-damage-characters\/\"><em>Fire Emblem: Three Houses\u00a0<\/em>focuses on building relationships<\/a> with different characters in between the battle segments, and features a calendar system much like the <em>Persona <\/em>series. Players will have classes to teach, and free time activities to engage in while they are out of battle, with these bonds eventually translating to exclusive events. Although the tactical RPG combat system might take <em>Persona\u00a0<\/em>players some time to adjust to, the social aspect of the game should be familiar ground.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static0.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/rune-factory-4-special-switch-hero.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Persona\u00a0<\/em>fans looking for a more casual approach to the JRPG genre will find\u00a0<em>Rune Factory 4\u00a0<\/em>surprisingly suited to their tastes.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/harvest-moon-one-world-similar-games\/\">A spinoff of the\u00a0<em>Harvest Moon\u00a0<\/em>series<\/a>,\u00a0<em>Rune Factory 4\u00a0<\/em>combines farming simulator mechanics together with\u00a0traditional RPG elements such as dungeon exploration, crafting, monster taming, and levelling. Importantly, it also includes a bonding system where players can interact with fellow townspeople and build relationships with them. With options for giving gifts and celebrating birthdays, players will eventually have the option to date or even marry another character.<\/p>\n<p>Originally released on the Nintendo 3DS back in 2013,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/rune-factory-5-switch\/\"><em>Rune Factory 4\u00a0<\/em>received an enhanced Nintendo Switch version<\/a> last year. Featuring a brand new difficulty mode and bonus character episodes, the new Nintendo Switch version offers the definitive way to experience the game. Though the game is a far more relaxed affair than any of the\u00a0<em>Persona\u00a0<\/em>games,\u00a0<em>Rune Factory 4\u00a0<\/em>offers a surprising amount of depth for a farming simulator and the social aspects of the game should appeal to many\u00a0<em>Persona\u00a0<\/em>fans.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/persona-news-2021-anniversary-what-to-expect-sega-atlus\/\">What to Expect from the Persona Franchise in 2021<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static2.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/3-Tokyo-Mirage-Sessions-FE.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>A crossover between\u00a0<em>Persona&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/shin-megami-tensei-3-remaster-release-date-leak-rumor\/\">parent franchise\u00a0<em>Shin Megami Tensei<\/em><\/a>,<i>\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0<em>Fire Emblem,\u00a0<\/em><em>Tokyo Mirage Sessions\u00a0<\/em>follows the story of a group of teenagers who battle hostile beings from another world called Mirages. Allying themselves with friendly Mirages, players must explore Tokyo and the alternate dimension where enemy Mirages roam. Along with the battle mechanics,\u00a0<em>Tokyo Mirage Sessions\u00a0<\/em>also includes sidequests where players can bond with other characters and receive\u00a0bonuses as a result.<\/p>\n<p>Although\u00a0<em>Tokyo Mirage Sessions\u00a0<\/em>is based on\u00a0<em>Shin Megami Tensei,\u00a0<\/em><em>Persona\u00a0<\/em>fans will still find plenty of aspects to enjoy. In particular, the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/persona-5-temperance-arcana-koppa-tengu-mitra-ardha\/\">turn-based battle system should be familiar for\u00a0<em>Persona\u00a0<\/em>fans<\/a> as players will have to\u00a0exploit enemy weaknesses and fight together with their Mirage. The Nintendo Switch received an enhanced port of the game last year titled\u00a0<em>Tokyo Mirage Sessions\u00a0<\/em>and it includes new story content as well as additional party members.\u00a0<em>Tokyo Mirage Sessions\u00a0<\/em><i>\u266fFE\u00a0<\/i>is a great choice for\u00a0<em>Persona\u00a0<\/em>fans looking\u00a0for a similar Atlus title to immerse themselves in.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static1.gamerantimages.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/tokyo-xanadu.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p><em>Tokyo Xanadu\u00a0<\/em>was conceived by Nihon Falcom as they wanted to <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/ys-9-monstrum-nox-ps4-demo\/\">shift away from the fantasy setting of their\u00a0<em>Ys<\/em><\/a><i>\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0<em>Trails\u00a0<\/em>series. Taking\u00a0place in modern day Tokyo, players take on the role of Kou Tokisaka as he follows a classmate one day and accidentally gets transported into a nightmare realm.\u00a0As\u00a0Kou learns more about these mysterious vortexes, he gets caught up in a major conspiracy. Much like the\u00a0<em>Persona <\/em>series, <em>Tokyo Xanadu<\/em> features a premise where players are a student by day but an unknown hero at night.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tokyo Xanadu\u00a0<\/em>also\u00a0features\u00a0dungeon exploration along with time management and social bonding mechanics that are very <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/trails-of-cold-steel-4-western-ps4-release-date\/\">similar to Nihon Falcom&#8217;s flagship <em>Trails\u00a0<\/em>series<\/a>. However,\u00a0<em>Tokyo Xanadu\u00a0<\/em>is a little different from traditional JRPGs in that it features real-time party based combat.\u00a0<em>Persona\u00a0<\/em>fans who are looking for a game with a different combat system while retaining social aspects and character bonding should give\u00a0<em>Tokyo Xanadu\u00a0<\/em>a try.
