With\u00a0Bravely Default 2<\/strong><\/em>‘s release just around the corner, the first review has come in. If other reviews soon to follow show similar scores,\u00a0Bravely Default 2\u00a0<\/em>could shape up to be an excellent sequel, according to the reviewer.<\/p>\n

The original\u00a0Bravely Default\u00a0<\/em>released in 2012 to highly positive reviews and was noted for featuring an enriching cast of characters to support its stellar storyline. Although it follows a similar format to most JRPGs with turn-based party combat,\u00a0Bravely Default\u00a0<\/em>initiated the brave point and default system<\/a> in which the game gets its name, which added to the game’s overall charm. Then, in 2015,\u00a0Bravely Second: End Layer\u00a0<\/em>released, again to positive reception, though some felt that it never innovated on\u00a0Bravely Default<\/em>. Following the belief that\u00a0Bravely Second\u00a0<\/em>wasn’t a satisfying enough sequel<\/a>, the series producers created\u00a0Bravely Default 2.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The first review scores for\u00a0Bravely Default 2\u00a0<\/em>come from the Japanese magazine Famitsu in issue 1682. As per tradition with Famitsu, four reviewers each individually scored\u00a0Bravely Default\u00a0<\/em><\/a>2<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>out of 10 points, then added their scores to a maximum possible score of 40. For\u00a0Default 2<\/em>, the reviewers each assigned it a 9 out of 10, totaling to a 36 out of 40.\u00a0In the past, Famitsu reviewed\u00a0Bravely Default\u00a0<\/em>with a total score of 38\/40 (10\/10\/9\/9), and\u00a0Bravely Second: End Layer\u00a0<\/em>a score of 36\/40 (also 9\/9\/9\/9 across all four reviewers).<\/p>\n

This is great news for fans of the\u00a0Bravely\u00a0<\/em>series anxiously awaiting the next installment, as is a note from a\u00a0reviewer’s\u00a0summary, which says that, though\u00a0Bravely Default 2\u00a0<\/em>is optimized for modern gameplay<\/a>, it’s still a “classic RPG” and retains the same charm that should enthrall nostalgic JRPG gamers. With the game\u00a0<\/em>set to launch this Friday, Famitsu’s highly positive review will likely boost sales and generate more hype.<\/p>\n

The review from Famitsu also said that\u00a0Bravely Default 2\u00a0<\/em>is a JRPG “refined to the highest level,” and echoes the style and assets of other Square Enix JRPGs<\/a>, such as\u00a0Octopath Traveler\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0the\u00a0Final Fantasy\u00a0<\/em>games\u00a0Bravely Default <\/em>was a spiritual successor of. The review summary doesn’t mention the too-difficult combat that many publications noted from the demo, so it will be interesting to see if the final game mirrors that same characteristic.<\/p>\n

While\u00a0Bravely Default 2\u00a0<\/em>is not a direct sequel<\/a> in the way\u00a0Bravely Second\u00a0<\/em>is, it looks like it still may stand as a substantial follow-up to a classic 3DS title.<\/p>\n

Bravely Default 2<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0will be available on February 26 for the Nintendo Switch.<\/p>\n
