Series creator Eric Kripke confirmed the news when he tweeted out a very &#8216;suggestive&#8217; photo from the set with the hashtag reading, &#8220;<span class=\"r-18u37iz\">InProduction.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The photo, taken from a rather risque angle, reveals a gold-plated statue of a superhero. At first glance,\u00a0the statue appears to be modeled\u00a0after <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/boys-creator-baffled-trump-supporters-idolizing-villains\/\">Homelander (Anthony Starr)<\/a>,\u00a0a\u00a0sociopathic and\u00a0terrifying\u00a0dark mirror to DC comics&#8217; Superman, and the leader\u00a0of the corporate-funded\u00a0superhero\u00a0team The Seven. However, upon closer inspection, this golden statue may actually be based on the character known as Soldier Boy, a new addition to the series played by <em>Supernatural<\/em>&#8216;s Jensen Ackles. Soldier Boy has been mentioned in the show before, but the third season will mark his first live-action appearance. His statue is seen on display in the season two episode, &#8220;Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker<em>.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/amazon-prime-exciting-movies-shows-2021\/\">10 Exciting Movies &amp; Shows Coming To Amazon Prime In 2021<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the comics, Soldier Boy is\u00a0a clear parody of <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/captain-america-ending-avengers-endgame-bad\/\">Marvel Comics&#8217; Captain America<\/a>, as they are both\u00a0overtly patriotic superheroes who fought the Nazis in the Second World War.\u00a0However, unlike good ole&#8217; Steve Rogers,\u00a0Soldier Boy is portrayed as weak-willed and cowardly, which fits with the show&#8217;s consistent theme of the dichotomy between superhero identities and their public personas. He is also the leader of another superhero team known as Payback, who were actually contracted at one point by the Vought Corporation to fight The Seven. This did not go well, with most of the team either getting killed or severely injured. Payback is also the title of the season three premiere.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/therealKripke\/status\/1364629342630854656\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CLrv82ijl7Y\/\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>How Soldier Boy and Payback will play into this season of <em>The Boys<\/em> remains a mystery. Despite <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/the-boys-intense-comic-moments-perfect-season-three-speculation\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the series drawing heavily from the comics<\/a>, it&#8217;s also taken many liberties with the property. For instance, the season 2 character Stormfront (Aya Cash), who was revealed to be a Nazi dating back to the Third Reich, was actually a member of Payback in the comics. However, it&#8217;s very possible that the character would have worked alongside\u00a0Soldier Boy back when she went by her previous superhero identity, Liberty. Considering that season two of <em>The Boys\u00a0<\/em>also revealed that the Vought\u00a0Corporation has pretty deep Nazi ties, it will be interesting to see how Soldier Boy plays into all that.\u00a0Kripke has gone on record to say\u00a0that his\u00a0version of Soldier Boy will\u00a0be much stronger and more menacing than the version seen in\u00a0the comics. He&#8217;s also\u00a0stated that the character will be able to go toe-to-toe with Homelander, even\u00a0describing him as &#8220;Homelander before Homelander.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Soldier Boy was also shown in the comics\u00a0to have been coerced into a sexual relationship with Homelander at one point, with the promise that he would be made a member of The Seven. It&#8217;s already been confirmed that this season will <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/the-boys-season-3-herogasm-story\/\">also tackle what&#8217;s known as the &#8216;Herogasm&#8217;<\/a>\u00a0story, an annual Vought-sponsored superhero orgy. So, either way, this season will likely continue\u00a0the streak of bizarre superhero sexual tendencies\u00a0seen throughout the show.<\/p>\n<p>Series star Karl Urban, who plays the foul-mouthed anti-superhero vigilante\u00a0Billy Butcher, also recently\u00a0teased the start of production\u00a0with\u00a0a photo on Instagram. Urban posted a picture of himself in costume as Butcher with a\u00a0caption thanking Amazon Prime Video and the cast and crew for\u00a0taking all the necessary\u00a0safety and precautions.
