Lucasfilm and Disney have announced that the Clone Wars<\/em> spin-off series Star Wars:\u00a0The Bad Batch<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0will premiere on Disney Plus on May 4th, 2021. The second episode will then premiere on May 7, with subsequent episodes available on Fridays on a weekly basis.<\/p>\n

The series will follow the exploits of\u00a0Clone Force 99, an elite squad\u00a0of Republic\u00a0commandos<\/a>\u00a0better known\u00a0as\u00a0The Bad Batch<\/em>,<\/em>\u00a0as they make\u00a0their way through the rapidly changing galaxy during the fall of the Galactic Republic and the rise of the Empire. Each member of Bad Batch has a\u00a0unique genetic mutation which gives them heightened\u00a0abilities that are \u2018desirable\u2019 for the battlefield. When they first appeared in\u00a0the original Clone Wars<\/em> series, Clone Force 99 is portrayed as rebellious and unconventional in their tactics, so it will be interesting to see how they adapt to a more authoritarian change in leadership.<\/p>\n

The Bad Batch first appeared in the seventh and final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars,<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>which\u00a0premiered on Disney Plus last year. During a four-episode arc, the elite squad was seen helping Captain Rex and Anakin\u00a0Skywalker as they searched for their fallen\u00a0comrade Echo, who was being used to predict republic battle\u00a0strategies after being captured by the separatists.\u00a0Dave Filoni will serve as an executive producer on T<\/em>he Bad Batch, <\/em>having previously\u00a0worked on several other Star Wars<\/em> television shows, most notably in animation, including the original\u00a0Clone Wars<\/em> series,\u00a0Star War Rebels<\/em>, and\u00a0Star Wars Resistance. <\/em>More recently, Filoni has served as an executive producer, writer, and director on\u00a0the hit live-action Disney Plus\u00a0series\u00a0<\/span>The Mandalorian<\/em>.<\/p>\n

After the continued success of T<\/em>he Mandalorian,<\/em> it seems Star Wars<\/em> may have found a new home<\/a> on the small screen. The Bad Batch<\/em> was\u00a0one of 11\u00a0Star Wars<\/em> shows recently announced\u00a0during Disney’s Investor Day last year. This included two Mandalorian<\/em>\u00a0spin-off\u00a0shows, a series focused on fallen Jedi Ahsoka Tano\u00a0(Rosario Dawnson), \u00a0and an Obi Wan Kenobi series\u00a0in which Ewan McGregor will be\u00a0reprising his role as\u00a0the famous Jedi mentor.<\/p>\n

The Bad Batch\u00a0<\/em>is set to\u00a0premiere\u00a0on May 4th, better known as\u00a0\u201cStar Wars Day.\u201d Although it wasn\u2019t officially created or declared by Lucasfilm, May 4th has become synonymous\u00a0with Star Wars<\/em> and is used by fans to celebrate the franchise. The date was chosen due to\u00a0the pun on the catchphrase “May the Force be with you”, which is instead changed to\u00a0“May the Fourth<\/em> be with you.”<\/p>\n

Disney and Lucasfilm have previously used the unofficial\u00a0holiday to promote content. Last year, on May 4th, the\u00a0final episode of The Clone Wars<\/em> premiered\u00a0on Disney Plus, as did\u00a0The Rise of Skywalker<\/a>,<\/em> the final chapter of the sequel trilogy.<\/p>\n
