Every PS5 console has an empty M.2 expansion slot where said drive could sit. The only problem is: Sony has yet to validate any of the models in the market or tell users which to get\/would work.<\/p>\n<p>The PS5&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vg247.com\/2020\/06\/03\/unreal-engine-rewrite-ps5-ssd-speed\/\" >ultra-fast internal NVMe SSD<\/a> notably runs at speeds equal to PCIe gen 4 on PC, but lead system architect Mark Cerny <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vg247.com\/2020\/11\/05\/ps5-wont-support-ssd-storage-expansion-launch\/\" >asked PS5 owners ahead of the console&rsquo;s launch last year to hold off on buying one<\/a> until Sony can validate them.<\/p>\n<p>According to Bloomberg, a firmware update planned for the summer would also ramp up the console&rsquo;s fan speed, presumably to better cool that area.
