Coming early 2022, the new game\u00a0acts as a prequel to the\u00a0<em>Diamond<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Pearl<\/em> games, taking place in the Sinnoh region of old.<\/p>\n<p><em>Pokemon Legends: Arceus<\/em> sees the Sinnoh region as a vast wilderness, featuring ancient Japanese-style architecture, as well as what seem to be early versions of <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/poke-ball-plus-diamond-pearl-remake-rumors-nintendo\/\">the iconic Poke Ball device,<\/a> as players set out to create the Sinnoh region&#8217;s very first Pokedex. While the game features\u00a0Pokemon found in the Sinnoh region as fans previously knew it, players will be able to choose from Rowlet, Cyndaquil, or Oshawott as their starter Pokemon.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-sword-shield-probably-isnt-getting-another-dlc\/\">Pokemon Sword and Shield Probably Isn&#8217;t Getting Another DLC<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the past, the Mythical Pokemon Arceus has been shrouded in much mystery, being regarded as the creator of the entire Pokemon world. While the reveal trailers for\u00a0<em>Pokemon Legends: Arceus<\/em> didn&#8217;t reveal the legend&#8217;s\u00a0direct connection to the game, it is likely that players will find themselves crossing paths with <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mythical-pokemon-arent-mythical\/\">the Mythical Pokemon<\/a> at some point. Perhaps most notably, aside\u00a0from taking on a prequel format, this\u00a0new game is also an open-world action RPG.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"200\" height=\"113\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YUW1ZWAq09M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It appears the\u00a0<i>Pokemon Legends: Arceus<\/i>&#8216; action RPG format allows for seamless transitions between exploring, capturing Pokemon, and battling them as well. If a player spots a Pokemon they want to capture, it seems that they will be able to simply throw a Poke Ball at it from a distance. As opposed to being restricted to only walking or running, it looks like players can also now hide in the tall grass to avoid being spotted by wild Pokemon, and even perform an agile dive-roll. Additionally, while\u00a0<i>Pokemon\u00a0Legends: Arceus<\/i> is developed by Game Freak, it appears to take on a new cell-shaded art-style different from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-sword-shield-hidden-secrets-easter-eggs\/\"><em>Pokemon Sword<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Shield<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The reveal trailers for\u00a0the new game note that while this is the same Sinnoh region fans have previously visited, its areas and <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/pokemon-forgotten-sinnoh\/\">inhabiting Pokemon vary greatly,<\/a> due to how long ago this story takes place. While fans may expect to choose Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup as their starter Pokemon in the Sinnoh region, the trailer reveals that players\u00a0will actually choose between Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott, which were brought to the Sinnoh region from all over the world by a certain traveling professor.<\/p>\n<p>It seems that like many expected, the Wild Area from\u00a0<em>Pokemon\u00a0<\/em><i>Sword<\/i> and\u00a0<em>Shield<\/em>\u00a0may have acted as a\u00a0setup for Game Freak&#8217;s next exploration into a fully open-world\u00a0<em>Pokemon<\/em> game.
