Pok\u00e9mon Diamond and Pearl released in North America in 2007 on Nintendo’s DS handheld, and now today’s fans will get a chance to revisit these installments with a new, modern makeover. Announced during today’s\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Presents festivities<\/a>, this pair of games \u2013 called Pok\u00e9mon Brilliant Diamond and Pok\u00e9mon Shining Pearl \u2013 is coming to Switch later in 2021.<\/p>\n

Though it may not have been the biggest reveal during the show (that honor belongs to\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Legends Arceus<\/a>), it’s still an exciting opportunity to jump into the classic\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon formula with a fresh spin.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to The\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Company’s Takato Utsunomiya, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are “faithful remakes” of the games originally released 15 years ago. The most obvious change is the\u00a0distinct visual overhaul, but fans can undoubtedly expect other tweaks to the experience\u00a0while retaining the core elements that made the original releases so well-received.<\/p>\n

The games take place in the Sinnoh region, and feature the starter Pok\u00e9mon Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup. Like most of the duos of\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon releases, the two versions\u00a0offer similar experiences, with slight variations between them, like which legendary Pok\u00e9mon are available in each.\u00a0<\/p>\n

These remakes are being developed by Ilca\u00a0Inc (a studio that helped create\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Home<\/a>), though\u00a0Game Freak’s Junichi Masuda is also serving as a\u00a0director, which is encouraging considering Masuda was also the director of the original Diamond and Pearl releases.<\/p>\n

Look for\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Brilliant Diamond and\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon Shining Pearl on Switch in late 2021, launching simultaneously worldwide.<\/p>\n\n
