Not many games give players the opportunity to be the snobbiest elves ever. That’s why\u00a0Total War: Warhammer 2<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>is as much a roleplaying experience as a grand strategy game<\/a>. By far, one of the most immersive factions in the game are the High Elves; they’re easy enough to emulate, just show the world your peaceful ways by being violent. Everyone else is wrong.<\/p>\n

Well, their faction name says it all. As such, the High Elves have some of the most powerful units in the game and dislike disorder. That’s also one reason why they can be easy to mess up. Knowing the right way to play them and the most effective tactics can go a long way. So make\u00a0Aenarion proud and crush those Dark Elves and\u00a0lesser factions by being at the top of your game as a High Elf.<\/p>\n

10 <\/span>Grab The Sword Of Khaine<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Sadly, part of making Aenarion proud requires a bit of madness and favor from Khaine, the Elven equivalent of Chaos’ Khorne, except nicer. As it is, the best way to ensnare Khaine’s power is by grabbing his sword which is conveniently situated Northeast of Ulthuan.<\/p>\n

It’s even better if your faction lord is Tyrion. Tyrion, when paired with the Sword of Khaine, becomes a one-man army and puts the game in easy mode regardless of the difficulty. Of course, the same goes for most lords who wield the sword, but the High Elves have the advantage of grabbing it earlier. Simply wage war against the Scourge of Khaine and take Nagarythe from their degenerate hands.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>Take Advantage Of The Flexible Ranged Units<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Regardless of whether players have the Sword of Khaine or not, the High Elf battle map tactic is pretty simple: bring in some quality unfair units then hope that the enemy will be embarrassed at how inadequate they are and rout. If they don’t then the Lothern Sea Guards will make quick work of them.<\/p>\n

These archers are straight-up questionable in their balancing; they’re archers equipped with spears and shields. They also function as early game units or as other players regard them: early game doom stacks in singleplayer. For multiplayer, they can get a bit tricky to use especially against players that know what’s up.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Bolt Throwers Are Good For Sniping<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Bolt Throwers are not exactly the best artillery units in the game; in fact, they’re the worst out of all the four base factions of\u00a0<\/a>Total War<\/a>: Warhammer 2<\/em>. However, players can even out the playing field by making the Bolt Throwers take out enemy artillery.<\/p>\n

Turn out they’re great for sniping and with their alternate “buckshot” mode, one can easily and manually take out the enemy artillery crew with well-placed shots. Since other factions’ artillery are straight-up better, then that’s a big advantage for the High Elves if they get dispatched.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Star Dragons Are The Best<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Speaking of big advantages, the High Elves also have some of the best dragons in the game<\/a>. They’re usually only available late game though but at that point, they already have a strong economy if they fully control Ulthuan.<\/p>\n

Star Dragons, for that matter, are the most impressive ones on the roster. High Elven doom stacks sometimes consist of 19 of them and one lord. If not, then make sure to always include at least two in an army. They can take out clumps of heavily armored melee units, which the High Elves have difficulty combating.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Play Defensively<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

As for the general battle style for the High Elves, it’s best to treat the units like precious action figures. That’s because High Elf units don’t replenish well especially outside of Ulthuan. So being conservative with them keeps them at full strength.<\/p>\n

Moreover, they don’t exactly last well in protracted battles and their strength per battle is on a downward trend so keeping them fresh by sending Tyrion with a Sword of Khaine while Lothern Sea Guards harass the stragglers is a sound strategy.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Early Campaign Is Where They Shine<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

In most other factions in\u00a0Total War: Warhammer<\/a> 2<\/em>, the early game is a time to be careful with resources and avoid some aggressive moves because your units are cheap and ineffective fodder to be replaced soon. The High Elves don’t have this problem at the same level.<\/p>\n

Their early units, the Lothern Sea Guards, and even the White Lions of Chrace are excellent against other factions. So it pays well by destroying potential enemies early on before they snowball into their full potential. Late game, the High Elves can recover due to their strong economy and dragons. Everything else in-between is challenging.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Vampire Coast & Dark Elves Are Priority Enemies<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

As for which enemies to nip in the bud before they start thinking they can go higher than the High Elves, that would be the troublesome Vampire Coast and the Dark Elves. The latter will\u00a0openly assault Ulthuan because they’re bitter emos.<\/p>\n

The Vampire Coast is more sinister in their approach and if players choose Tyrion, then they’re pitted against them directly. Taking out those undead pirates before they start building cheesy doom stacks of gunpowder units is a must in higher difficulty levels.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Let Enemies Take Ally Cities So You Can Take Them Afterward<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Consequently, players can also let the Dark Elves be especially if they choose Tyrion. That’s because High Elven politics is hard work and trying to consolidate Ulthuan’s power can be frustrating. Hence, letting the Dark Elves take Ulthuan territory (that isn’t yours) can be a favor.<\/p>\n

After they take it, players can simply take it back and it will automatically be their province. The same strategy is viable for Norscan invaders as well. Just do it in moderation and don’t let things get too out of hand.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Trade & Confederate!<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

There are moments when your High Elf allies will also gain the upper hand against Dark Elves, Norsca, or pirates. If that happens, then don’t be in a rush to strike up a military alliance with them, a trade agreement and defensive alliance will do.<\/p>\n

Because for some reason, military alliances make confederating the High Elven factions more difficult. Players will eventually want all of Ulthuan under their unified rule and assaulting them is more trouble than it’s worth. So just be friendly to everyone and try to one-up Alarielle until you can challenge her.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Turtle Up In Ulthuan<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

So what next after securing Ulthuan? If playing the base campaign, don’t be in a rush yet to colonize everything. It’s better to turtle up in the area because doing the ritual with a wide span of territory means the chaos ritual assaults will be more spread out.<\/p>\n

By making sure Ulthuan is the only territory you have before doing the Vortex rituals, you ensure a more defensible spot. The same goes for Grand Campaigns too. Let the other factions crush one another first so you only have to deal with one big enemy or fight only in one front. Just sit in the High Elf perch and watch the plebs slaughter each other first.<\/p>\n
