Developers can participate in multiple ways, such as premiering a brand-new game via a trailer, make announcements for upcoming games, initiate surprise releases, and hold interviews to promote their indie titles. Now, Wholesome Direct is opening\u00a0submissions to indie developers, and any game is open to consideration.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/kowloon-nights-funds-23-indie-games\/\">Kowloon Nights Funds 23 Upcoming Indie Games<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>While Wholesome Games does say that &#8220;anyone can submit their game&#8221; to be showcased during Wholesome Direct, the key here is that the game being showcased should be wholesome in some way. For example, according to the submission form, elements that can make indie games wholesome can be low stakes, perhaps like <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/ova-magica-kickstarter-milestones-passed\/\">indie farming sims that made it big on Kickstarter<\/a>, thoughtful representation of marginalized groups, and low\u00a0amounts of stress.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/_wholesomegames\/status\/1366470967166402561\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>During its premiere event, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/wholesome-direct-indie-showcase\/\">Wholesome Direct 2020<\/a> showed off some indie games that would go on to be hits, like\u00a0<em>Spiritfarer\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Ooblets<\/em>. Others, while not yet released, are widely popular in the indie community and being highly anticipated for releases, such as\u00a0<em>Little Witch in the Woods\u00a0<\/em>and the farming sims\u00a0<em>Snacko\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Garden Story,\u00a0<\/em>which may make a return this year.
