Ultimate\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>fans and artists have imagined some potential alternate costumes that could be sold as DLC. While the game focuses on adding new fighters as DLC, these costumes are filled with clever references and would\u00a0likely delight anyone who mains each character.<\/p>\n<p>By default, each\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/super-smash-bros-ultimate\/\"><em>Super Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/em><\/a> character has eight possible\u00a0outfits from which to choose. For some fighters, such as Luigi, all eight options are just recolors of each other. Some other fighters have more variety in their outfits. For example, Mario gets his normal outfit and one based on his wedding outfit from\u00a0<em>Super Mario Odyssey<\/em>, while Cloud Strife gets\u00a0outfits based on both the original\u00a0<em>Final Fantasy 7\u00a0<\/em>and <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/final-fantasy-vii-advent-children-15-years-later\/\">its film sequel, <em>Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children<\/em><\/a>. Some characters even go further to have completely different models in place of different clothes, such as\u00a0<em>Pikmin 3<\/em> protagonist Alph as an alternate stand-in for Olimar.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/super-smash-bros-wii-u-3ds-alternate-costumes-colors\/\">&#8216;Super Smash Bros.&#8217;: Alternate Costumes and Colors Detailed<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The fan art, compiled from the work of several artists (credited in a comment attached to the post), imagines a new DLC pack composed of alternate costumes for several fighters. These include Mario&#8217;s blocky appearance from\u00a0<em>Super Mario 64<\/em> and Bowser&#8217;s wedding outfit from\u00a0<em>Odyssey<\/em>. The other outfits make more obscure references. These include Toon Link&#8217;s conductor outfit from\u00a0<em>The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks<\/em>; the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/custom-kingdom-hearts-cloud-amiibo\/\">version of Cloud that appears in\u00a0<em>Kingdom Hearts<\/em><\/a>; the boxer outfit King K. Rool wears as the final boss of\u00a0<em>Donkey Kong 64<\/em>; and the Black Yoshi color variant introduced in\u00a0<em>Yoshi&#8217;s Story<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/SmashBrosUltimate\/comments\/lvsb33\/idk_who_made_this_but_i_really_wish_it_were_real\/\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s easy to imagine a large number of additional costumes building on the few provided. If the game decided to add more &#8220;retro&#8221; costumes in the style of Mario&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Super Mario 64<\/em> appearance, for example, there would be a lot to choose from. These could range from the angular\u00a0version of Sonic seen in\u00a0<em>Sonic Adventure<\/em> for the Dreamcast\u00a0to the chibi version of Joker seen in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/persona-q2-english-dub-release-date\/\">Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>for the Nintendo 3DS. On the other hand, Toon Link could get some costumes from a game made well after\u00a0<em>Spirit Tracks:\u00a0<\/em>the 3DS game\u00a0<em>Tri Force Heroes<\/em>, where dressing up in various over-the-top outfits was an important game mechanic.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s unlikely costumes like this will ever appear in the game, however. The only costume DLC the game has received is for its Mii Fighters. To be fair, Mii Fighter costume DLC packs have introduced some of\u00a0<em>Super Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/em>&#8216;s most iconic additions, such as the stunning\u00a0appearance of <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/super-smash-bros-ultimate-sans-goemon-team-rocket-zero-undertale\/\">Sans from <em>Undertale<\/em> via costume<\/a>. Still, Mii Fighters are not among the game&#8217;s most popular fighters, nor do they rank particularly well in the game&#8217;s tier lists. Therefore, costume DLC for other characters would likely have more of an impact, and be used by more people.<\/p>\n<p>Given that the game&#8217;s DLC fighter additions will soon wind down, perhaps there is a chance for new costumes after that. After the recent reveal of <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/super-smash-bros-ultimate-pyra-mythra-showcase-date\/\">Pyra and Mythra from <em>Xenoblade Chronicles 2<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0only two fighters remain to be revealed. While development on the game will probably close almost completely at that point, it would take very little effort to create and sell new costumes. This could help to keep interest in the game high as the Switch reaches the final years of its lifespan.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Super Smash Bros.
