With several\u00a0Star Wars<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0projects currently in the pipeline, Disney\u00a0has been on a mission\u00a0to\u00a0sign on\u00a0some of the best minds in the film and television industry<\/a>\u00a0to assist with the growth of the\u00a0franchise. According to\u00a0a previous report by The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>, one of the company’s major recruits is director J.D. Dillard, the creative mind behind\u00a0the 2016 film\u00a0Sleight.\u00a0<\/em>He had reportedly been approached by the company to take on a rumored Star Wars ‘Exegol project’, which could very well be in the works at the moment.<\/p>\n

Exegol, the Sith planet,\u00a0was first revealed in\u00a0Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>The mysterious world\u00a0lies in the Unknown Regions of the galaxy and\u00a0is a place where evil forces are so overwhelming\u00a0even\u00a0Emperor Palpatine was able to return.\u00a0The film featured\u00a0a cavernous Sith temple where the ultimate showdown between Palpatine and Rey occurred, and that\u00a0was really the only part of Exegol that audiences were able to see.\u00a0Other scenes of the planet seemed to portray it as a vast, barren wasteland; however, there could be much more to it than meets the eye.<\/p>\n

Unlike earlier\u00a0Star Wars\u00a0<\/em>films which had focused more on the Jedi and the light side of the Force, the ‘Exegol project’ could give fans a much closer look into the Sith and the dark side of the Force, further adding to the lore of the franchise. One theory posits that the film could be an origin story for the First Order, which had previously established a base on Exegol\u00a0before they rose to power.<\/p>\n

Such a concept would mean pivotal roles for the characters\u00a0like Gallius Rax and General Rae Sloane, who were both involved in leading Imperial forces to Exegol. When Darth Sidious died, the\u00a0Contingency plan\u00a0he devised for rebuilding the Galactic Empire was left for Rax to carry out. Later on, Rax would end up dying at the hands of Sloane during the\u00a0Battle of Jakku<\/a>, but he would ultimately convince her to still follow through with the Contingency. Sloane eventually\u00a0did so, fleeing to the Unknown Regions\u00a0to regroup with\u00a0the remaining Imperialists and begin the movement which would eventually give rise to the First Order.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0lore behind\u00a0Rax and Sloane’s mission to rebuild the Empire and\u00a0resurrect Palpatine<\/a>\u00a0has not been fully explored in the films yet, so that could be\u00a0a compelling storyline for Dillard’s project. That said, neither Disney nor Lucasfilm have confirmed any details regarding the project, so as far as we know, the story\u00a0could\u00a0just\u00a0be set in Exegol and nothing more.<\/p>\n

Disney purchased Lucasfilm back in 2012 and went on to produce a number of\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0films, including\u00a0Rogue One: A Star Wars Story\u00a0<\/em><\/a>(which was a non-trilogy film like the ‘Exegol project’ would likely be).\u00a0<\/em>The film garnered positive reviews from even diehard fans and went on to earn a staggering $1.055 billion at the box office worldwide.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Star<\/strong>\u00a0Wars<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>collection\u00a0is now streaming on Disney+.<\/p>\n
