Envisioned as a spiritual successor to the immensely popular\u00a0Left 4 Dead<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>series,\u00a0Back 4 Blood\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>looks to be a high-octane online zombie massacring extravaganza slated to release later this year. The developer\u00a0behind the title, Turtle Rock Studios, has made it clear that the game won’t just be a one-and-done for the team, hopefully sporting plenty of post-launch content for fans to look forward to.<\/p>\n

Talking to Edge Magazine, Co-Founder of the studio and Design Director of\u00a0Back 4 Blood<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>Chris Ashton clarified what Turtle Rock is currently considering when it comes to developing\u00a0extra content for the game following its debut. Specifically, he told the publication that while microtransactions could well be on the cards, they’ll likely stick to making in-game purchases purely for cosmetic items.<\/p>\n

“We know we want to have ongoing content after launch, but we\u2019re still figuring out what that would be,” Ashton told the magazine. “If we do implement microtransactions, it would be for cosmetics only.” It’s a\u00a0positive\u00a0sign for those excited about Turtle Rock’s upcoming zombie adventure, with microtransactions weighing down several multiplayer titles in the past. The company’s previous\u00a0online-focused IP,\u00a0Evolve<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>was controversial due\u00a0to these issues, with fans criticizing\u00a0the steep prices of the game’s array of additional content.<\/p>\n

It’s interesting to see that\u00a0Back 4 Blood\u00a0<\/em>will be taking a slightly different approach, and hopefully, Turtle Rock<\/a> will share a firmer view of its plans for post-launch support soon. In the meantime,\u00a0the new four-player zombie co-op\u00a0experience is shaping up to be a\u00a0tantalizing modernization of\u00a0Left 4 Dead’s\u00a0<\/em>popular gameplay formula. Much like its predecessor, the title\u00a0will see a group of four players\u00a0team up to take on endless hordes of the undead, having to work as a group to survive.\u00a0Along the way, they’ll wield an array of weapons, tackle special infected, and\u00a0take on\u00a0colossal zombies that will require collaboration to defeat.<\/p>\n

The game will hit\u00a0PC and consoles on June 22. It will be the first\u00a0non-VR project from Turtle Rock Studios since 2016’s\u00a0Evolve,\u00a0<\/em>with the team\u00a0spending\u00a0the last few years collaborating\u00a0with Oculus to bring games like\u00a0Journey of the Gods, The Well,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Face Your Fears\u00a0<\/em>to life. That’s not to say the studio didn’t attempt to launch an IP on the scale of\u00a0Back 4 Blood\u00a0<\/em>in that time, revealing last year that it had also worked on a canceled project called\u00a0Invaders<\/a><\/em>. The game saw players fighting aliens in the United Kingdom, assembling into four-person teams in a style similar to the\u00a0Left 4\u00a0<\/em>Dead\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Back 4 Blood.\u00a0<\/em>Sadly, it was canceled, with only the idea’s concept art remaining.<\/p>\n

Back 4 Blood\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>is set to release June 22 for\u00a0PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X\/S.<\/p>\n
