Resident Evil Village<\/strong><\/em> is set to release on May 7, 2021, and while the game’s release date is still a few months away, it has already managed to take the online community by storm. Of course, given that Resident Evil<\/em> remains one of the biggest video game franchises of all time<\/a>, it is not surprising that it is making headlines with every move it makes.<\/p>\n

However, one\u00a0interesting fact about Resident Evil Village’s<\/em> popularity is not because of its continuation of Resident Evil 7’s<\/em> first-person horror formula, or returning characters Chris Redfield and Ethan Winters. The element that is currently shifting the spotlight to Resident Evil Village<\/em><\/a> is the new character named Lady Dimitrescu, or more popularly known as the “tall vampire lady.” But why is Lady Dimitrescu so popular, and what does she actually represent?<\/p>\n

When Capcom announced Resident Evil Village<\/em> at Sony’s PlayStation event<\/a> last June, players were excited to see what the studio had in store for the next installment in the long-running survival horror franchise. As expected, the game will carry over Resident Evil 7’s<\/em> first-person gameplay, focused on stricter survival horror elements than action gameplay. Of course, many were happy to know that Ethan Winters and Chris Redfield will be returning to the game as major characters. However, the spotlight on Chris and Ethan soon shifted to a completely new character.<\/p>\n

The exact details on Lady Dimitrescu are currently limited<\/a>, but it has since been revealed that her actual name is Alcina Dimitrescu. Based on trailers released by Capcom, it appears that Lady Dimitrescu is a mutant-human, and most likely the matriarch of the Dimitrescu family. She resides in an Eastern European country where Castle Dimitrescu, one of the game’s primary locations, is located.\u00a0When Capcom revealed Lady Dimitrescu, players immediately showed their high appreciation and approval due to her vampiric nature and extreme height.<\/p>\n

Last month, Capcom revealed Lady Dimitrescu’s height<\/a>, which is approximately 2.9 meters tall, or 9 feet and 6 inches. Of course, this contributed to her rise to stardom given that she is taller than some of Resident Evil’s<\/em>\u00a0most iconic antagonists, including Nemesis and Mr. X. Additionally, Lady Dimitrescu’s appeal could also be traced back to her appearance, which is vastly different than any traditional Resident Evil<\/em> enemy.<\/p>\n

In the past, Resident Evil<\/em> featured tyrants, which are massive\u00a0enemies whose design is focused on either their robotic appearance or monstrous look<\/a>.\u00a0This is probably the reason why many are so drawn to\u00a0Lady Dimitrescu, given that she remains intimidating and scary despite her elegant and beautiful appearance. Capcom likely designed Lady Dimitrescu this way to incite fear a different way, this time through a psychological focus.<\/p>\n

While Capcom’s approach to Lady Dimitrescu is unique to the Resident Evil<\/em> franchise, the archetype of a tall terrifying woman has been done numerous times in myths and legends. One possible inspiration behind Lady Dimitrescu is the Hachishakusama, a spirit found in Japanese lore that takes the form of an 8-feet tall woman known for kidnapping and preying on children. Even her appearance closely resembles that of the\u00a0Hachishakusama, a clear indication\u00a0of Resident Evil Village’s<\/em> overall theme\u00a0that\u00a0mixes\u00a0its traditional sci-fi elements with a little bit of the supernatural<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the end, Lady Dimitrescu will certainly be a powerful villain in Resident Evil Village<\/em>, and it wouldn’t be surprising if she ends up being one of the franchise’s most iconic antagonists.<\/p>\n
