While Musou games aren’t typically known for their storylines,\u00a0Persona 5 Strikers\u00a0<\/em>brings the lengthy story sections that\u00a0Persona 5\u00a0<\/em>is known for and combines it with a new style of gameplay.<\/p>\n

Essentially a genre featuring open areas where players hack-and-slash through mindless enemies,\u00a0Musou games have become wildly popular in Japan\u00a0with hundreds of games spanning different franchises and spinoffs. Featuring flashy characters with extravagant skillsets, Musou games have become renowned for their simplicity and addictive grind. Offering a great introduction to the characters, weapons, and mechanics that players will see throughout the series,\u00a0Dynasty Warriors 8\u00a0<\/em>also\u00a0includes upgraded graphics and improved weather effects.<\/p>\n

For\u00a0players new to the Musou genre,\u00a0Dynasty Warriors 8\u00a0<\/em>is the best option<\/a> to get into the franchise given the amount of content and game modes available. The inclusion of the historical encyclopedia\u00a0allows players to understand the\u00a0complex situation during the\u00a0Three Kingdoms periods and how the characters are connected with one another. Though it was originally released in 2013,\u00a0Dynasty Warriors 8\u00a0<\/em>has received numerous ports and expansions over the years with the most recent release on Nintendo Switch in 2018.\u00a0Persona 5 Strikers\u00a0<\/em>fans who are interested in the Musou genre and the franchise that spawned it should look no further than\u00a0Dynasty Warriors 8.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Dragon Quest Heroes\u00a0<\/em>duology combines the Musou combat of\u00a0Dynasty Warriors\u00a0<\/em>together with the characters, monsters, and lore from the\u00a0Dragon Quest\u00a0<\/em>universe<\/a>. Much heavier on RPG elements compared to standard\u00a0Warriors\u00a0<\/em>games,\u00a0Dragon Quest Heroes\u00a0<\/em>allows players to visit towns, interact with NPCs, and encounter random monsters to replicate the classic\u00a0Dragon Quest\u00a0<\/em>experience. Moreover, the\u00a0Dragon Quest Heroes\u00a0<\/em>games also feature fewer enemies than standard Musous and instead focus on stronger enemies and difficult bosses.<\/p>\n

Divided into adventure and Musou sections, players will be able to progress the story and collecting loot during the adventure section while they fight bosses and complete unique objectives on a map during the Musou sections. With a unique tactical spin on the Musou genre,\u00a0Fire Emblem Warriors\u00a0<\/em><\/a>includes features found in the\u00a0Fire Emblem\u00a0<\/em>franchise such as units, tactical commands, and a bonding system. Combat is styled after Musou elements, but like other\u00a0Fire Emblem\u00a0<\/em>games, it also features the Weapon Triangle, a system where certain weapons have advantages or disadvantages against other weapons.<\/p>\n

Featuring a cast of over 20 playable characters, players are able to take control of their favorite characters from the series who each have distinct fighting styles and stat growths. Similar to previous\u00a0Fire Emblem\u00a0<\/em>games<\/a>, players will also need to navigate around the permadeath mechanic as units that die can only be revived with expensive materials. The\u00a0Warriors Orochi\u00a0<\/em>series is a crossover between\u00a0two of Koei Tecmo’s most popular Musou series,\u00a0Samurai Warriors<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and Dynasty Warriors<\/em>.\u00a0<\/em>Based on an alternate universe where a rift in spacetime brought together the warriors from the Three Kingdoms era in China and the Warring States period of Japan,\u00a0Warriors Orochi\u00a0<\/em>boasts a gigantic roster of characters from both series. Along with the standard combos and special attacks, characters in\u00a0Warriors Orochi 4\u00a0<\/em>can also use Sacred Treasures\u00a0which allow them to perform magic commands. Despite featuring an overwhelming amount of characters from both franchises, its tight mechanics and fluid gameplay make it a nice introduction to the Musou genre.<\/p>\n

Unlike Musous like\u00a0Hyrule Warriors, Warriors Orochi 4\u00a0<\/em>doesn’t introduce any\u00a0new mechanics to the genre but\u00a0instead\u00a0makes up for it with its massive amount of content. Though the camera can be janky and many characters are clearly overpowered,\u00a0Warriors Orochi 4\u00a0<\/em>distills the Warriors<\/em>\u00a0experience<\/a> into an enjoyable\u00a0Musou with a surprising amount of combat depth.\u00a0Fans of Musou-styled combat should not miss\u00a0Warriors Orochi 4\u00a0<\/em>as it offers one of the most complete experiences of the entire franchise.<\/p>\n
