The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/strong><\/em> fighter presentation today showed off everything players need to know about Pyra and Mythra, the latest fighters coming as part of the Fighter Pass Vol. 2. Alongside the duo’s moveset, fans also got confirmation that Pyra and Mythra would release later today<\/a>, most likely around 9:00 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n

However, this\u00a0Super Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/em> showcase gave fans a bit more information about some behind-the-scenes elements of the game’s development process. During the presentation,\u00a0Super Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/em><\/a> director Masahiro Sakurai revealed he keeps figurines of unreleased fighters in the Fighter Passes hidden in a locked drawer somewhere in his studio offices.<\/p>\n

It was\u00a0revealed during a segment of the presentation in which Sakurai took time to display some detailed figurines of Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2<\/em>. The camera then began to pan through an entire collection of figurines based off various Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/em>\u00a0DLC fighters<\/a>, and some series staple fighters, that are part of Sakurai’s collection. Sakurai noted he uses these as references when developing Smash Bros.<\/em> fighters, as figurines are able to provide accurate representations of character models and textures. Sakurai even gave an example, saying the figurines help developers see unusual details like the bottoms of character’s feet.<\/p>\n

It’s always intriguing to hear about how players’ favorite games are developed, especially when they involve Nintendo properties – largely in-part due to Nintendo’s overall secrecy when it comes to how its games are made. Sakurai also revealed some interesting information regarding how Smash Bros. Ultimate<\/em>‘s CGI trailers are made<\/a>, saying he often creates scripts for how the trailers will play out. This time, however, Sakurai entrusted Monolith Soft to create Pyra and Mythra’s reveal trailer.<\/p>\n
