While it&#8217;s easy to dismiss\u00a0this bit of text as\u00a0filler\u00a0at first glance, several major signs indicate that this\u00a0could very well set the scene for\u00a0<em>Kingdom Hearts 4<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The secret ending of\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/kingdom-hearts-3\/\">Kingdom Hearts 3<\/a><\/em><em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>reveals that Sora isn&#8217;t quite dead following the moment when he vaporizes during the game&#8217;s normal ending. Instead, he has arrived in a city that looks very much like Tokyo. As he wanders the city, he is watched by Yozora, a mysterious newcomer with unknown motivations. The DLC epilogue\u00a0<em>Re Mind<\/em> gave Sora a fierce battle against Yozora, but whether he wins or loses, Sora doesn&#8217;t learn why Yozora is targeting him. Later on, during the ending of\u00a0<em>Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory<\/em>, Riku learns that Sora is in a\u00a0bizarre world named Quadratum.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"related-single\">RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/kingdom-hearts-melody-memory-kairi-aqua\/\">Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory Finally Sets Up Kairi With Aqua<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The text in question appears on the back of the\u00a0<em>Verum Rex<\/em> video game box,\u00a0which features Yozora and appears in the <em>Toy Story<\/em> section of\u00a0<em>Kingdom Hearts 3<\/em>.\u00a0The box has some amusing details that evoke classic\u00a0<em>Final Fantasy<\/em> games. In addition to supposed in-game screenshots that resemble those seen in games like\u00a0<em>Final Fantasy 7<\/em>, the game is published by Square Enix. This hilariously confirms that Square Enix exists within Sora&#8217;s universe, adding yet <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/disney-plus-kingdom-hearts-tv-show-why\/\">another wrinkle to <em>Kingdom Hearts<\/em>&#8216; convoluted storytelling<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/KingdomHearts\/comments\/ly9uaw\/the_backside_of_the_verum_rex_game_in_kingdom\/\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The back of the box mentions that robots play an important role in Quadratum, but\u00a0humans will have their &#8220;KARMA&#8221; accelerate as a result. It&#8217;s unclear whether &#8220;KARMA&#8221; in this case is literal karma, or some other in-universe term. If literal, karma could be a new\u00a0framing for the <em>Kingdom Hearts<\/em> series&#8217; discussion of light and darkness. After all, at this point, <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/kingdom-hearts-sora-changes\/\">Sora and friends have evolved as people<\/a>, and could be said to have accrued good and bad karma. Alternately, &#8220;KARMA&#8221; could be a new game mechanic, like\u00a0<em>Final Fantasy 7<\/em>&#8216;s Materia.<\/p>\n<p>The focus on robots may call back to one of the more confusing plot points in the\u00a0<em>Kingdom Hearts<\/em> series, namely data and artificial beings. A major plot point in\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/kingdom-hearts-recoded-trailer\/\">Kingdom Hearts Re:coded<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>for the Nintendo DS was that a digital clone of Sora, known as Data-Sora, grew his own heart, signifying his person-hood. While the box art evokes pilotable mechas, rather than sentient robots, it&#8217;s possible that robots may be become major characters,\u00a0helping players better understand how data works in this universe.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, much of the text evokes Sora&#8217;s journey, suggesting that perhaps <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/kingdom-hearts-3-remind-yozora\/\">Sora was always fated to meet Yozora<\/a> at some point. Phrases like &#8220;what is [an] eternal bond&#8221; and &#8220;a journey without a place to return&#8221; speak to the challenge Sora currently faces. After all, he has never been farther from his friends than he is in Quadratum.
