Could the\u00a0X-Men<\/em><\/strong><\/a> finally be making their grand debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? According to a new report by The Illuminerdi<\/em>, a new\u00a0X-Men\u00a0<\/em>movie\u00a0is currently in development at Marvel Studios, and there’s a possibility that it will feature familiar faces from the Fox movies.<\/p>\n

While details are scarce on the alleged project, sources say the film\u00a0has been tentatively titled\u00a0The Mutants <\/em>and that it will primarily serve as a reboot of the X-Men franchise.\u00a0Should the report ring true, the film will likely not be a part of Phase 4, as it would still be in its very early stages of development.<\/p>\n

Before\u00a0Disney purchased Twentieth Century Fox in 2019, over a dozen movies<\/a> based on the comic book mutants were produced. Some were more well-received than others, but they managed to maintain their sometimes confusing continuity throughout each entry. The first X-Men<\/em> film, which came out two decades ago, changed the superhero genre altogether – it paved the way for a slew of sequels and spinoffs which Marvel would eventually take notes on to create its own cinematic universe.<\/p>\n

On top of this rumored film, it has also been confirmed that Marvel Studios will produce a third Deadpool movie with\u00a0Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson. A recent update confirms that Deadpool 3<\/em> will maintain its R rating<\/a> despite Disney’s typical PG-13 formula. This would mark it as the first actual Marvel Studios X-Men project, since any other projects are just rumors at this point in time.<\/p>\n

Additionally,\u00a0WandaVision<\/em> also featured an X-Men cameo from Evan Peters’ Quicksilver, who was previously only featured in the Fox films.\u00a0While it seemed this would open the door for\u00a0other X-Men to arrive in the MCU, such as James McAvoy’s Professor X,\u00a0 Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique<\/a>, Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey, or even Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, this was ultimately proven not to be the case in WandaVision<\/em>‘s finale.<\/p>\n

Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, has not yet provided\u00a0a comment on such claims; however, he has teased about bringing the X-Men into the MCU in the past. During a panel interview at Comic-Con: International in 2019, Feige made mention of some previously Fox-owned properties in passing, including the X-Men and Fantastic Four<\/a>. Since then,\u00a0it has been confirmed that an MCU film is in development for the latter franchise, with\u00a0Spider-Man\u00a0<\/em>director Jon Watts to helm the project<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The full\u00a0X-Men<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>collection is now streaming on Disney+.<\/p>\n
