2020 was a tough year for game developers. Studios of all sizes had to make the hard decision to push games back into 2021, meaning 2020 was unusually scarce on major releases. On the bright side, that means 2021 is going to be jam-packed with highly anticipated games. One of them is\u00a0LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0The\u00a0LEGO<\/em> series of games<\/a> is so omnipresent that it’s odd to think that the series has ever stopped. However, 2020 didn’t have any new\u00a0LEGO\u00a0<\/em>games, since the newest\u00a0LEGO Star Wars<\/em> game had to be delayed until 2021 instead of getting its planned 2020 release.<\/p>\n

Thankfully LEGO Star Wars<\/em> fans can look forward to the release of\u00a0LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga<\/em><\/a> in the near future. After its delay, Traveller’s Tales indicated that the game would release in spring 2021, which has nearly arrived. However, there’s one thing notably still missing from\u00a0The Skywalker Saga<\/em>‘s impending release, and that’s the specific date of the release. One would think that Traveller’s Tales would have said something by now. Although technically the release is in a wider window of the first and second quarter of 2021, the first quarter is nearly over. When is\u00a0The Skywalker Saga<\/em> going to resurface?<\/p>\n

Part of the reason that it’s hard to speculate on when exactly\u00a0The Skywalker Saga<\/em> will release is that it’s unclear how much work Traveller’s Tales felt<\/a> it still had left to do. On the one hand, the game could be out sooner rather than later, indicating that there was just a bit of fine tuning to be done that the developers felt they should take a couple extra months to get right. On the other hand,\u00a0The Skywalker Saga<\/em> might have hit secret roadblocks in development and needed a ton of work to get right, amount to a five or six month delay. Considering how wide the window for its release is, either could be true.<\/p>\n

The hope for fans is that the prior possibility is the case. After all, Traveller’s Tales delayed the game a long time ago, not just before the 2020 holidays. A\u00a0LEGO Star Wars<\/em> trailer<\/a> released last August confirmed that the game wouldn’t be out until 2021. Since the date was pushed back so preemptively, one would hope that it means\u00a0The Skywalker Saga<\/em> just needed an extra cushion in development time. If that is the case, though, there really should be a release date out by now. It’d be a rare sight to see\u00a0a Skywalker<\/em>\u00a0Saga<\/em>‘s release date in April announced in March.<\/p>\n

Maybe Traveller’s Tales is keeping the exact release date close to its chest on purpose. It might want to surprise fans with a sudden release, announcing it only a couple weeks beforehand. That kind of sudden release would be unintentional, but it might not be an obstacle to its success.\u00a0LEGO\u00a0<\/em>games and\u00a0LEGO Star Wars<\/em> in particular are hugely successful<\/a>, and so fans are ready to jump on the game as soon as possible. It’s also a good type of multiplayer game that fans can play with a friend or family member at home, so it’s a great game to pick up while social distancing continues.<\/p>\n

There’s also the fact that\u00a0Star Wars<\/em> is a hot topic of conversation right now. Season 2 of\u00a0The Mandalorian<\/em> just came and went<\/a>, and now fans are looking forward to a slew of new\u00a0Star Wars<\/em> shows that are on the horizon. Many fans hope that these shows will turn into DLCs for\u00a0The Skywalker Saga.<\/em> It’d certainly be exciting to see the Mandalorian and his allies and enemies join the already huge cast of playable characters.\u00a0LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker<\/em> Saga<\/em> is easily one of the ambitious\u00a0LEGO<\/em> games to date. Hopefully its bold ideas and big promises aren’t keeping it from its already late release.<\/p>\n
