It’s a jarring revelation, and the manner in which Sumire’s guilt comes pouring out after this\u00a0fact is revealed is quite saddening. This guilt must’ve been tearing her apart all this time, and it’s understandable as to why Maruki decided to alter her cognition so that she wouldn’t be absorbed by this guilt for the rest of her life.<\/p>\n

This is perhaps why she tries to fight the Phantom Thieves in a bid to fall back under Maruki’s spell. However, this was obviously unhealthy for her, and the group decides to fight her in an emotional battle, where her guilt is clear for everyone to see.<\/p>\n
