Coming hot off the heels of the casting of\u00a0Florian Munteanu\u00a0as Krieg, actress\u00a0Haley Bennett has been officially cast in Eli Roth’s\u00a0Borderlands<\/a><\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>movie.<\/em> However, unlike previous casting calls,\u00a0Haley Bennett will be playing as an original character, not before seen in any of the\u00a0Borderlands<\/em> games.<\/p>\n

The news comes exclusively from IGN, which has been covering the movie since the announcement last February. So far,\u00a0Borderlands<\/em> has featured a variety of casting calls, from Jamie Lee Curtis as\u00a0Dr. Patricia Tannis<\/a> to Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina to Jack Black as the voice of ClapTrap<\/a>. Haley Bennett is another exciting addition, but the big intrigue about her casting is her role.<\/p>\n

Haley will be starring as an unnamed character that will be “the key to the past of Cate Blanchett’s Lilith.” As\u00a0Borderlands<\/em> fans know, Lilith is a Siren, a Vault Hunter with cosmic abilities, able to give her an edge in combat. Lillith’s story has been central to the story of\u00a0Borderlands<\/em> and the roles of the Vault Hunters. Lillith was central to the events of\u00a0Borderlands 2\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Borderlands 3<\/em>\u00a0and was an important NPC in\u00a0Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel<\/em>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Haley Bennett has had her hand in a variety of major films and independent productions. Haley starred in the action thriller\u00a0The Equalizer<\/em><\/a>, directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Denzel Washington. Haley would, once\u00a0again, be paired with Denzel and Antoine in The Magnificent Seven<\/em>.\u00a0<\/i>where she displayed more of a lead role as her character, Emma, hires The Seven. Haley would star as the lead in the independent psychological body horror film\u00a0Swallow, <\/em>receiving critical praise for her performance.<\/p>\n

The casting of\u00a0Haley Bennett is exciting but introduces a new mystery to the production. As Haley’s character is an original, unnamed character, it is perfectly possible for Eli Roth’s\u00a0Borderlands\u00a0<\/em>to not only be an original story set within the\u00a0Borderlands<\/em> universe, but feature entirely new, never-before-seen characters that are pivotal to the plot, and perhaps, the\u00a0Borderlands<\/em> universe.\u00a0Borderlands<\/em> is rich in lore<\/a> and myth, from the mystery of the Eridians to the true origins of certain robots, such as FL4k. While it is unknown exactly what direction\u00a0Borderlands<\/em> will go into, there is plenty of possibilities to be potentially explored in the movie.<\/p>\n

Borderlands<\/em><\/strong> is currently in pre-production, with no set release date.<\/p>\n
