The takeover, which was part of a well-orchestrated social media stunt by Bungie developers, started several days ago on March 8.<\/p>\n<p>In the current Season of the Chosen in <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/destiny-2\/\"><em>Destiny 2<\/em><\/a>, players have been tasked with interfering with the Cabal Empress\u2019s attempts to gain support from remaining Cabal factions through ritual combat in the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/destiny-2-cosmodrome-battleground-seasonal-challenges\/\">Battlegrounds activity<\/a>. This season has also had a weekly quest that sees key characters in the <em>Destiny 2<\/em> story updating players on the situation, leading many fans to praise Season of the Chosen for its improved storytelling when compared to previous seasons.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/destiny-2-witch-queen-release-date-delayed-2022\/\">Destiny 2 Witch Queen Expansion Hit With Big Delay<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Empress Caiatl\u2019s Twitter takeover started with her attempting to rally Guardians to fight against a \u201cshared enemy\u201d after the beginning of Season of the Chosen saw Commander Zavala refusing to negotiate an alliance with the Cabal. Since the internet is already whipped up by tall, female characters thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/lady-dimitrescu-resident-evil-village-breakout-star-antagonist\/\"><em>Resident Evil: Village\u2019s<\/em> Lady Dimitrescu<\/a>, some <em>Destiny 2<\/em> fans were quick to fawn over the 9\u201910 Cabal leader, leading to some sassy replies from the Empress herself.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DestinyTheGame\/status\/1369094780571901956?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>After appealing to Guardians\u2019 affinity for turning slain gods into weapons, Caiatl dealt a low blow to the Destiny community when answering a question from Destiny lore enthusiast and Twitter user AnonPig about having any regrets for <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/destiny-2-season-chosen-story-calus-caiatl-hive-darkness\/\">betraying her father Emperor Calus<\/a>. The Empress said in a tweet: \u201cLife is a chain of decisions, triumphs, and regrets. Do you regret failing to save Cayde-6?&#8221; This week\u2019s story quest also saw an attempt on Vanguard leader Commander Zavala\u2019s life. Caiatl\u2019s response to a question about the assassination seemed to imply that the Empress had little to do with it, leading to <em>Destiny<\/em> lore master My name is Byf to question the legitimacy of Caiatl\u2019s tweets in terms of the in-game canon story of <em>Destiny 2<\/em>, and who could really be behind the assassination attempt.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MyNameIsByf\/status\/1369434729376792586?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Today, the Vanguard issued an apology on the official <em>Destiny 2<\/em> account to say that the infiltration is being investigated. <em>Destiny<\/em> social media manager Nicole Olsen, who was responsible for posing as Empress Caiatl with help from the <em>Destiny 2<\/em> narrative team, also tweeted to thank the community for playing along with the social media stunt.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nicoleeols\/status\/1370434993164455938?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Given Destiny\u2019s weakness over the years regarding storytelling, despite its fascinating and intricate lore, it is very refreshing to see Season of the Chosen getting so much praise for its evolving story. The Battlegrounds missions nicely set the scene, but the added mystery from the weekly quest and updates to the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/destiny-2-get-inside-ship-in-presage-exotic-quest\/\">Presage exotic mission aboard the Glykon<\/a> have elevated this Season above any other.<\/p>\n<p>With recent news that Bungie is heavily investing in <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/bungie-destiny-2-media\/\">expanding the <em>Destiny<\/em> franchise<\/a> potentially beyond video games, the <em>Destiny 2<\/em> community could be about to experience a golden age of storytelling in the <em>Destiny<\/em> universe.
