C-3PO is one of the most widely recognized characters<\/a> in\u00a0Star Wars<\/em> history. First appearing in the original Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0in 1977 (which was later\u00a0retitled Star Wars: Episode IV \u2013 A New Hope<\/b>), <\/i>he’s\u00a0actually the first character to speak any dialogue in the entire saga. He’s widely recognized as the polite, bumbling protocol\u00a0droid who’s fluent in over six million forms of communication. However, this piece of art asks the question: what if C-3PO had a dark side?<\/p>\n

Posted to the Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0subreddit by user\u00a0Elson1988,\u00a0<\/em>the piece depicts C-3PO\u00a0with glowing red eyes, armed with a blaster for an arm. He\u00a0appears to be going on a rampage accompanied by some other metal friends in a signature Star Wars<\/em> hallway, where so many characters in the franchise love to wipe out their enemies<\/a>. It’s an original piece from a few years ago from illustrator and concept artist Anthony Devine<\/a>, who has done many other pieces of art over the years for Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0other fandom\u00a0properties. Even though it’s inconceivable that C-3PO would ever turn to such violence, Devine’s artwork brings to mind another infamous Star Wars<\/em> protocol droid who would be rather proud of this image.<\/p>\n

In Kieron Gillen’s acclaimed 2015\u00a0Darth Vader\u00a0<\/em>comics series, which is\u00a0set between the events of A New Hope<\/em> and the Empire Strikes Back,\u00a0<\/em>readers were introduced to a very unpleasant protocol droid by the name of 0-0-0, spelled out as Triple-Zero. In that storyline,\u00a0evil Sith Lord Darth Vader<\/a> hires\u00a0rogue archeologist Doctor Aphra\u00a0to help him track down the rebel pilot who destroyed the Death Star. It was during this time that Aphra and Vader reactivated Triple-Zero, who then introduced himself as a protocol droid specializing\u00a0in etiquette and torture.<\/p>\n
