If any 90s video game fans are spotting wearing a purple t-shirt while hopping around on a pogo-stick,\u00a0chances are they are celebrating Commander Keen<\/strong><\/em> day. While Commander Keen<\/em> celebrated its 30th\u00a0anniversary<\/a> in December 2020, March 14 has officially been dubbed the pale hero’s day by creator Tom Hall.<\/p>\n

March 14, or 3\/14, is a reference to the fact that Commander Keen<\/em> has an IQ of 314 – itself a reference to the mathematical constant known as pi. The Keen<\/em> series is known for its sense of humor, colorful graphics, and tight gameplay; widely considered to be one of the best MS-DOS games ever made. Considering the\u00a0thousands of MS-DOS games<\/a>\u00a0out there, this is no small feat.<\/p>\n

Commander Keen<\/em> day comes only a few days after another celebration of a gaming icon. While MAR10 day saw some\u00a0nice Switch sales<\/a>, it so far appears the Commander Keen<\/em> games aren’t receiving any celebratory discounts. Of course, fans wanting to relive the excitement of the original platformers can buy the Keen<\/em> bundle pack on Steam and Gog for under ten dollars, so there is less of a need for big discounts.<\/p>\n
