Despite the shaky state of theatre reopenings and the risk of low attendance due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Marvel Studios’\u00a0Black Widow<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>is still set to debut in theatres in May. With the premiere date closing in fast,\u00a0the studio has been ramping up its marketing for the highly-anticipating film with a new promotional approach that involves\u00a0a surprise drop of never-before-seen shots and stills.<\/p>\n

The images, which have been circulating on Twitter, show the Black Widow<\/em> cast in\u00a0various shots from\u00a0the film, as well as behind-the-scenes on the set. Several close-up shots of Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johannson) are included in the batch, as well as new looks at Melena Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz), Red Guardian (David Harbour), the\u00a0mysterious Taskmaster (OT Fagbenle), and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh)<\/a> behind a sniper rifle.<\/p>\n

Black Widow<\/em> will take place sometime between the events of\u00a0Captain America:<\/em>\u00a0Civil War<\/em><\/a> and\u00a0Avengers:<\/em>\u00a0Infinity War<\/em>, following the Avenger as she confronts a dangerous conspiracy that is tied to her past. The film will also take a deeper look into her origin story, which involves a young Natasha Romanoff being groomed by the KGB to become their ultimate assassin.\u00a0Currently, it is unclear whether or not Black Widow will appear in any other works in the MCU’s Phase 4. The last time we saw her was in\u00a0Marvel Studios’\u00a0Avengers: Endgame<\/em><\/a>, where she sacrificed her life in a shocking twist to help the Avengers obtain the Soul Stone. Before she committed the act, Red Skull, the protector of the Soul Stone, made it clear that whoever gave their life to the stone cannot be brought back in any way.<\/p>\n
