Marvel\u00a0Studios’ highly-anticipated series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>is premiering on Disney Plus later this week. Marvel Studios president and Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige recently teased that there are \u201ccertainly ideas\u201d for a season two.<\/p>\n

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier<\/em>\u00a0stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson\/Falcon and Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier\/Bucky Barnes.\u00a0 It picks up sometime after the events of Avengers: Endgame\u00a0<\/em>and will see Falcon struggle to decide whether or not he is the rightful successor to Captain America<\/a>. Fifty Dead Men Walking<\/em>\u2019s Kari Skogland was tapped to direct, while Malcolm Spellman served as showrunner and head writer. The new MCU series reportedly drew inspiration from iconic buddy cop movies like 48 Hours<\/em>, Rush Hour<\/em>, and Bad Boys<\/em>. Emily VanCamp, Daniel Br\u00fchl, Wyatt Russell, and Noah Mills round out the ensemble cast.<\/p>\n

Stan has teased the upcoming series in a recent press junket. \u201cThe consequences of Steve [Rodgers] missing, has thrown them (Falcon and Winter Soldier) into opposite corners in terms of facing their lives and their demons,\u201d said the actor. \u201cThey got different things they\u2019re facing, but they\u2019re in similar places in terms of the questions that are asked.\u201d Meanwhile, Mackie has stated that Falcon is hesitant to take up Cap\u2019s shield because \u201cit feels like someone else\u2019s.”\u00a0Mackie previously admitted he was hesitant to return<\/a>\u00a0for the series\u00a0at first\u00a0because he thought the production value would be taken down for television,\u00a0though he ultimately joined the project because Feige promised the project would be unique.<\/p>\n

Feige has stated\u00a0Mackie was the unanimous first choice<\/a> to play the character and that the actor was offered the role outright instead of auditioning, which the Marvel Studios president noted is a rare occurrence in MCU history. Mackie made his MCU debut as Sam Wilson in\u00a0Captain America: The Winter Soldier. <\/em>In the film, Wilson retires from the U.S. Air Force and joins forces with Captain America.\u00a0More of Sam Wilson’s backstory will be explored in\u00a0The <\/em>Falcon and the Winter Soldier<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0with Feige noting that the character is different from Black Panther or Thor partly due to the fact that he’s an African American man with experience in the military and counseling veterans with PTSD, as opposed to being royalty from another country or planet.<\/p>\n

Fans have been speculating about whether there will be a second season of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier<\/em>. During a virtual press conference, Feige stressed that the focus is always on quality rather than quantity. \u201cWe get asked (that question) much more in television, because people expect it to be like what they know before: Where\u2019s season 2?\u201d said Feige today. \u201cWe approached it like the movies: We better make this great, because we won\u2019t be able to do another one.\u201d While the Marvel\u00a0Studios president\u00a0didn\u2019t confirm a second season, he revealed, \u201cif\u2026[they\u2019re] able to do another one, there are certainly ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marvel Studios’\u00a0WandaVision\u00a0<\/em>recently wrapped its first season and has yet to receive a second season renewal, despite Feige suggesting a second season was possible<\/a>.\u00a0Elizabeth Olsen\u2019s Wanda Maximoff\u00a0will continue into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. <\/em>At this time,\u00a0it remains unseen if\u00a0The Falcon and The Winter Soldier<\/em> will lead directly into a future MCU film.<\/p>\n

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>debuts on Disney Plus on March 19, 2021.<\/p>\n
