Flanagan confirmed the news on his personal Twitter account, posting an image of a production slate followed by the caption reading, &#8220;<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">And we&#8217;re off! <\/span><span class=\"r-18u37iz\">#day1<\/span> <span class=\"r-18u37iz\">#midnightclub.&#8221; Flanagan&#8217;s latest collaboration with the streaming giant will be a teen-horror series based on the popular novel\u00a0<em>The Midnight Club\u00a0<\/em>by author Christopher Pike.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"r-18u37iz\">This will be Flanagan&#8217;s fifth time collaborating with Netflix. He\u00a0recently wrapped\u00a0filming\u00a0on a different Netflix series shrouded in mystery titled <em>Midnight Mass<\/em><em>.\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/movies-like-geralds-game\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">His previous Netflix films\u00a0include <em>Gerald&#8217;s Game<\/em><\/a><em>,\u00a0<\/em>an adaptation of a Stephen King short story, and\u00a0<em>Hush, <\/em>an original\u00a0horror film starring Kate Siegel as a secluded deaf writer whose forced to fight off a masked killer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/haunting-of-bly-manor-no-more-seasons\/\">Haunting Of Bly Manor Creator Says There Are &#8216;No Plans&#8217; For More Seasons<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"r-18u37iz\"> Flanagan gained a lot of notoriety with the hit Netflix anthology horror series <em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mike-flanagan-haunting-of-bly-manor\/\">The Haunting of Hill House<\/a>,<\/em>\u00a0based on the Shirley\u00a0Jackson novel of the same name. Flanagan served as an executive producer and director on\u00a0<em>Hill House,\u00a0<\/em>which was extremely well received by audiences and critics.\u00a0The show explores\u00a0the lives of\u00a0five adult siblings and their father, whose experiences growing up in the haunted Hill House mansion continue\u00a0to affect them in the present day.\u00a0<\/span>Flanagan returned as an executive producer and director for the second season of the series titled\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/no-haunting-bly-manor-isnt-case-bury-gays\/\">The Haunting of Bly Manor<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>which was a loose adaptation of the novella titled\u00a0<i>The Turn of the\u00a0Screw\u00a0<\/i>by Henry James. While <em>Bly Manor\u00a0<\/em>received mostly positive reviews, some felt that\u00a0it did not hold up to the quality of the first season.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/flanaganfilm\/status\/1371513405262102529\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In recent years, Flanagan has become one of the most prominent\u00a0horror directors working today. Outside of his work at Netflix, Flanagan also directed the 2019 adaptation of Stephen King&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Doctor Sleep,\u00a0<\/em>which saw Ewan McGregor as\u00a0a now grown-up Danny Torrence from <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/shining-movie-better-book\/\">Stanley Kubrick&#8217;s <em>The Shining<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em>\u00a0The film drew heavily on the Kubrick predecessor\u00a0and saw Danny dealing with his traumatic past as he\u00a0faced off against a cult of psychics who share his ability to use <em>The Shining<\/em>. While the film initially\u00a0received\u00a0mixed reviews, some audiences and critics praised the extended director&#8217;s cut that was included in\u00a0the\u00a0home media release. Flanagan&#8217;s other horror\u00a0credits include\u00a0<em>Oculus,\u00a0<\/em><i>Before I\u00a0Wake, Absentia,\u00a0<\/i>and the 2016 prequel\u00a0<i>Ouji:\u00a0Origin of Evil.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The official synopsis of the <em>Midnight Club<\/em> novel reads: &#8220;Rotterdam Home, a hospice where teenagers with terminal illnesses went to die, was home to the Midnight Club&#8211;a group of five young men and women who met at midnight and told stories of intrigue and horror.
