Marvel Studios<\/a> <\/strong>is on an absolute roll this year – not only in terms of new releases but also in providing updates on several Phase 4 projects that are still in early development. One such update regards the upcoming Secret Invasion<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>series, which is being developed for Disney Plus, as Kingsley Ben-Adir of\u00a0Peaky Blinders<\/em> has been cast in a leading role for the project.<\/p>\n

Deadline reports Ben-Adir will play a villain alongside Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury<\/a> and Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos, the Skrull who was introduced in\u00a0Captain Marvel<\/em>. As of now, the identity of Ben-Adir’s villain is still unknown.<\/p>\n

Secret Invasion<\/em> will be based on the 2008 Marvel Comics story of the same name, which focuses on the alien race of shape-shifters who have been coming to Earth for several years. Brian Michael Bendis, the writer of the eight-issue comic miniseries, intended for\u00a0Secret Invasion<\/em> to be a direct sequel to the Annihilation<\/em> storyline<\/a>, which was released in 2006. Featured in the series are a slew of superhero squads, including the Mighty Avengers, New Avengers, Young Avengers, and the Fantastic Four.<\/p>\n

Perhaps one of the most far-out theories circulating the web is that\u00a0Secret Invasion<\/em> could have some sort of tie-in with the rumored\u00a0Spider-Woman<\/em> film<\/a>, which Olivia Wilde is said to be working on. In the comics, the Skrull Empress Veranke uses her shape-shifting powers to transform into Spider-Woman, taking her place as a double-agent for S.H.I.E.L.D. under the watch of Nick Fury. However, it is more likely that the series will have more to do with the\u00a0Captain Marvel\u00a0<\/em>storyline\u00a0since that is where the Skrulls were first introduced.<\/p>\n

The Secret Invasion<\/em> series\u00a0was first revealed by Marvel Studios at the Walt Disney Company’s Investor Day last year, along with two other comic-based series – Armor Wars<\/em> and\u00a0Ironheart<\/em><\/a>. The shows are part of\u00a0the company’s push to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe beyond the Avengers<\/em> franchise, exploring different aspects of the comic books that tie into the stories of the OG superheroes.<\/p>\n

While\u00a0Secret Invasion\u00a0<\/em>will introduce a new team of Skrulls that will impersonate many of the superheroes on Earth,\u00a0Armor Wars\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Ironheart<\/em> will look at the stories of two characters with ties to the Avengers’\u00a0founding member, Iron Man. Don Cheadle will return as James Rhodes<\/a>, a.k.a. War Machine, in the former, while Dominique Thorne will portray Riri Williams, a genius inventor who created an advanced suit based on Tony Stark’s original invention, in the latter.<\/p>\n

Marvel Studios’<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0Secret<\/strong> Invasio<\/em>n<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>is currently in development at Marvel Studios.<\/p>\n
