The remaster of\u00a0Diablo II<\/em>, titled\u00a0Diablo II: Resurrected<\/em><\/a>, is finally coming out in 2021. Diablo 2<\/em> is a more than 20-year-old game at this point and well-deserving of a remaster, so it should be no surprise that excitement is building for the comeback of the most revered entry in the franchise. But for many players, Diablo 2: Resurrected\u00a0<\/em>will be their first foray into the demonic series<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Diablo II<\/em>\u00a0will have seven playable classes, each with its own history and playstyle. The Amazon specifically is one of the few classes exclusive to\u00a0Diablo II<\/em>, and anybody who knows anything about Greek mythology knows Amazons aren’t to be taken daintily. In fact, the Amazon is among the more versatile and powerful classes in the game.<\/p>\n

10 <\/span>Amazons in Diablo Are Based On Greek Mythology<\/h2>\n

Amazons are a well-known race of warrior women described within Greek mythological texts and imagery. In addition to being the inspiration for\u00a0Diablo II<\/em>‘s Amazon class<\/a>, they are the inspiration for the superhero Wonder Woman, whose origins mirror those described in the myths.<\/p>\n

The Amazon in\u00a0Diablo II<\/em>\u00a0dons\u00a0crimson armor with gold trim and a warrior’s ponytail, an artistic take on Amazonian imagery as depicted in ancient Greek artworks.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>The Amazons Are From An Isolated\u00a0Trading\u00a0Civilization<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

In\u00a0Diablo 2<\/em>, the Amazon comes from an isolated nomadic tribe of warrior women who roam the Twin Seas in search of trade. Their cities are not built from the ground up but rather build into the natural environment \u2013 specifically in the canopies of great tropical forests.<\/p>\n

They consider the elimination of the three Prime Evils (Diablo, Mephisto, Baal) their primary goal as a people and prophesized\u00a0their coming long before the events of the game.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>The Amazon\u00a0Can Use Bows, Crossbows, Javelins, and Spears<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The Amazon is a very versatile class that is able to use ranged and mid-range weaponry extremely effectively<\/a>. The Amazon’s affinity for bows and crossbows is increased by their dexterity-focused starting stats. Their use of javelins and spears allows them to deal melee damage\u00a0while keeping enough distance for evasion.<\/p>\n

Amazons have access to Amazon-only weapons too, such as the Matriarchal Bow or the Ceremonial Spear, which are upgraded versions of the base<\/a> weapon.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Her Passives and Magic Revolve Around Evasion<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The Amazon excels for her mobility on the battlefield and her incredible evasive abilities. At level one, the Amazon has few powers at her disposal except Jab, two basic Arrow abilities, and two passive abilities that make her attacks more powerful against enemies. At level six, though, she gets Dodge, the first of many evasive actions.<\/p>\n

Later levels grant the Amazon the Avoid passive, the Decoy and Evade skills, and\u00a0the Freezing Arrow skill which freezes multiple enemies in place at once.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>The Amazon Is Wholly\u00a0Unique To Diablo II…<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The Amazon is one of few classes in\u00a0Diablo\u00a0II\u00a0<\/em>that wasn’t reused or repurposed for\u00a0Diablo\u00a0III\u00a0<\/em>or\u00a0<\/a>Diablo IV<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>The\u00a0Amazon is now an iconic figure\u00a0of\u00a0Diablo II,<\/em>\u00a0being the only class that was left untouched by the passage of time.<\/p>\n

Funnily enough, she was intended to be a DLC playable character for\u00a0Diablo III<\/em>, but was ultimately sidelined for the Necromancer who also appeared in\u00a0Diablo II<\/em>.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>…But Closely Resembles The Original Diablo’s Rogue In Gameplay<\/h2>\n

While the Amazon has no parallel in later games, her moveset and niche was filled by the Rogue in\u00a0the original\u00a0Diablo.\u00a0<\/em>The Rogue was an evasive character who\u00a0was a master of ranged weaponry like Bows but could still hold their own in a melee fight.<\/p>\n

The Rogue is coming back for\u00a0Diablo IV<\/em> alongside the Druid and Sorceror from\u00a0Diablo II.<\/em>\u00a0Based on this, the Amazon probably won’t be included in\u00a0Diablo IV<\/em>, as the Rogue fills the same niche of an evasive mid-range combatant.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>The Amazon Starts With The Highest Dexterity<\/h2>\n

The Amazon starts with a 25 in Dexterity, 5 points ahead of any other class available in\u00a0Diablo II<\/em>. It might not seem like a lot, but it’s a massive boost for her quick moveset and sets her apart as the most dextrous character in the game.<\/p>\n

Diablo <\/em>is\u00a0renowned for its open progression system<\/a> that allows\u00a0characters to fill different roles than intended, but the\u00a0Amazon should be played with a dexterity-focused mindset.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>She\u00a0Excels At Single-Target Damage and PvP<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The Amazon is an incredible single-target damage dealer and one of the best PvP classes. While she has some abilities that target multiple enemies at once like Strafe (a very late-game skill) the majority of her ability toolkit revolves around targeting a single opponent and dancing around their attacks.<\/p>\n

This is especially useful in PvP situations, where there are usually only one or two enemies to take down at once. Avoid pulling large groups of enemies as the Amazon to maximize output.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>The Amazon Was Originally Scantily Clad, Then Redesigned<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The Amazon was the first class that developers finished,\u00a0alongside Act I, to be used in the demo of the full game. Initially, developers\u00a0designed the Amazon to be scantily clad in animal skins that covered only the essentials as well as bracers and short feral hair.<\/p>\n

The Amazon went through a later redesign because lead developers thought she had a “Xena-like appearance” (of Xena: Warrior Princess) and redesigned her to better match the Amazon’s orderly values and Greek inspiration.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Cassia\u00a0Makes An Appearance In Heroes Of The Storm<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

While the Amazon in\u00a0Diablo II<\/em> has no name given to her, in\u00a0Blizzard’s MOBA game\u00a0Heroes of the Storm<\/em> Cassia was introduced alongside a number of\u00a0Diablo<\/em> classes<\/a> as playable, named characters. Cassia looks exactly like The Amazon in\u00a0Diablo II<\/em>, and many\u00a0fans say they are\u00a0one and the same.<\/p>\n

Cassia’s moveset in\u00a0Heroes of the Storm<\/em> mirrors the Amazon’s\u00a0abilities in\u00a0Diablo II<\/em>, including Lightning spells and a rapid flurry of Javelin attacks.<\/p>\n
