Chris Hemsworth is currently filming the highly-anticipated film Thor: Love and Thunder\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/a>in his native country, Australia. The MCU star recently revealed the unique challenges that the fourth installment of the\u00a0Thor<\/em>\u00a0franchise presents.<\/p>\n

Thor: Ragnarok<\/em>\u00a0premiered in 2017 and was largely considered to be the best\u00a0Thor\u00a0<\/em>film to date. The blockbuster was praised for its wittiness and dazzling action sequences. Marvel made a concerted effort to change the tone of the Thor<\/em> franchise and showcase the comedic side of its titular star. Hemsworth previously stated that while he was happy with the second Thor\u00a0<\/em>film, it didn\u2019t provide opportunities to be funny. The Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit) directed film<\/a> grossed over $850 million worldwide on a $180 million budget.<\/p>\n

The New Zealand-born filmmaker is currently directing Thor:<\/em>\u00a0Love and Thunder<\/em>. Last year, Waititi revealed that the upcoming sequel will draw inspiration from the\u00a0Mighty Thor<\/em>\u00a0comic books. The film is expected to see Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster\u00a0become the Mighty Thor<\/a> and gain similar powers to the former king of Asgard. Portman last played Foster in 2013\u2019s Thor: The Dark World<\/em>. The large ensemble cast of Love and Thunder<\/em> includes Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif,\u00a0Chris Pratt\u00a0as Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax, and Karen Gillen as Nebula.<\/p>\n

Last year, Oscar Award-winning actor Christian Bale signed on to play the villainous Gorr the God Butcher. In the comics, Gorr has superhuman strength and the ability to shape-shift and camouflage. After his mother and children die, Gorr strives to kill every god that exists. Fans were caught off guard by the casting announcement because\u00a0The Dark Knight<\/em>\u00a0star previously stated that he\u2019d never seen a single Avengers film or any superhero film aside from Christopher Reeve’s Superman movies<\/a>\u00a0while also indicating that he had no interest in returning to the genre at the time.<\/p>\n

While details of\u00a0Love and Thunder\u00a0<\/em>have been kept under wraps, Thompson has said the script is both humorous and\u00a0touching.\u00a0Meanwhile, Hemsworth told GQ Australia\u00a0<\/em>that he is motivated to make an even better film than Ragnarok<\/em>. \u201cThere\u2019s that same \u2013 if not more \u2013 pressure now to do that again,\u201d says the star. \u201cSo there\u2019s a little bit of exciting nervous energy that is motivating all of us to reach a little further and make sure we\u2019re covering all bases and approaching the scene from every angle.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following\u00a0Love & Thunder,<\/em>\u00a0Hemsworth is expected to start filming George Miller\u2019s Mad Max<\/em> spinoff film<\/a>, Furiosa<\/i>. The highly anticipated film will explore Furiosa\u2019s origins and backstory, with Anya Taylor-Joy playing a younger version of Charlize Theron\u2019s Furiosa.<\/p>\n

Thor: Love and Thunder\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>is scheduled to be released in theatres on May 6, 2022.<\/p>\n
