The IP has been flooded with releases since then, with the numbered games being supplemented by spin-offs, remakes, and more.<\/p>\n

Capcom has always been known to stay loyal to its IPs and continuously give them numerous new releases, rather than creating brand new franchises. This business model has worked well for them, though it can be confusing for new audiences looking to get into the series’ for the first time. For those curious about where they can play the\u00a0Resident Evil\u00a0<\/em>series, here are all of the main games in order of release, with the consoles that they can be played on.<\/p>\n

13 <\/span>Resident Evil<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The original\u00a0Resident Evil\u00a0<\/em>may not look like much today, but it’s one of the most influential<\/a>\u00a0releases of its generation across all genres. The game takes players into a mysterious mansion and tasks them with staying alive by not just killing the zombies within but also by solving puzzles<\/a> needed to progress.<\/p>\n

12 <\/span>Resident Evil 2<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The praise and acclaim that\u00a0Resident Evil\u00a0<\/em>received upon release unsurprisingly meant that there was a ton of pressure on the sequel.\u00a0Capcom didn’t disappoint<\/a> with\u00a0Resident Evil 2<\/em><\/a>, as the sequel received heaps of praise from critics, exemplified by its impressive 89 Metascore on PlayStation 1<\/a>.<\/p>\n

11 <\/span>Resident Evil 3: Nemesis<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Before the release of\u00a0Resident Evil 7: Biohazard<\/em>, the third release in the series,\u00a0Resident Evil 3: Nemesis<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>was regarded as the scariest entry in the franchise<\/a>. Capcom managed to frighten its players by implementing one of the terrifying villains in gaming history, the Nemesis.<\/p>\n

10 <\/span>Resident Evil \u2013 Code: Veronica<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Resident Evil \u2013 Code: Veronica\u00a0<\/em>was the first\u00a0entry in the series not to be released on the\u00a0PlayStation 1.\u00a0<\/em>The survival horror game didn’t try to reinvent the wheel and kept much of the gameplay elements similar to the original trilogy. However, a few technical changes to the visual design, particularly with the new dynamic camera and real-time 3D environments, replaced the predecessor’s pre-rendered backgrounds.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>Resident Evil (remake)<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

The first, but certainly not the last remake to appear on this list, the classic first game’s remake was initially exclusive to the GameCube before coming to the Nintendo Wii in 2008 with a new control scheme. The remake was then remastered in HD and came to all of the major consoles at the time.<\/p>\n

8 <\/span>Resident Evil Zero<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Retrospectively,\u00a0Resident Evil Zero\u00a0<\/em>is one of the best old-school\u00a0Resident Evil\u00a0<\/em>titles to play today. However, the game wasn’t too well-received at the time, as many critics and fans felt that the series hadn’t evolved much since the original game hit stores around six years prior. As the title suggests,\u00a0Resident Evil Zero\u00a0<\/em>is a prequel to the original 1996 game.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>Resident Evil 4<\/h2>\n

Capcom clearly took Resident Evil Zero<\/em>‘s criticisms\u00a0<\/em>to heart, as they took a drastic shift of direction both stylistically and gameplay-wise with\u00a0Resident Evil 4<\/em><\/a>. The survival horror game is considered one of the greatest of all time, with its enjoyable and lengthy\u00a0campaign, excellent enemy variety<\/a>, memorable boss fights<\/a>, and a generous amount of bonus content ensuring that it’s still fantastic to play today.<\/p>\n

6 <\/span>Resident Evil 5<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Following the enormous success of\u00a0Resident Evil 4<\/em>, the\u00a0sequel subsequently became the most highly anticipated release in the series since\u00a0Resident Evil 2. <\/em>Unfortunately, the game failed to live up to the hype, and with many players feeling that it was a large drop in quality. However, it’s fair to say that\u00a0Resident Evil 5\u00a0<\/em>was a victim of overhyping, as the game still provided a thoroughly enjoyable 10-15 hour adventure, despite it not reaching its predecessor’s quality.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>Resident Evil 6<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Capcom didn’t seem to mind criticisms from\u00a0<\/em>fans that\u00a0Resident Evil 5\u00a0<\/em>was too focused on action instead of horror, as the Japanese company instead leaned into the previous game’s action elements, creating a game that many wouldn’t even describe as horror. A change of direction isn’t inherently a bad thing, of course, but\u00a0Resident Evil 6\u00a0<\/em>struggled to impress and received some of the franchise’s lowest ever Metascores.<\/p>\n

4 <\/span>Resident Evil 7: Biohazard<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

From what is considered to be the least scary\u00a0Resident Evil\u00a0<\/em>game to the one that is undoubtedly the most frightening.\u00a0Resident Evil: 7 Biohazard\u00a0<\/em>took a leaf out of\u00a0Resident Evil\u00a0<\/em>4′<\/em>s book in the sense that it responded to criticisms of the previous game by completely changing the direction of the series. Resident Evil 7\u00a0<\/em>seemed to take influence from horror games like\u00a0Outlast<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Amnesia<\/em><\/a>, with its first-person perspective and lack of weaponry, particularly in the first few hours.<\/p>\n

3 <\/span>Resident Evil 2 (remake)<\/h2>\n

The remake of\u00a0Resident Evil 2\u00a0<\/em>has a case for being the greatest remake<\/a> of all-time. Not only did the game receive Metascores between 89 and a whopping 93 on Xbox One, but it also won the prestigious Ultimate Game of the Year accolade at the Golden Joystick Awards<\/a>. The remake made many changes from the original game, particularly with the over-the-shoulder perspective.<\/p>\n

2 <\/span>Resident Evil 3 (remake)<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

Not many people were surprised\u00a0when Capcom announced that they were remaking\u00a0Resident Evil 3: Nemesis,\u00a0<\/em>given the enormous commercial success and praise that the second game’s remake received. Many fans were excited\u00a0to see how the Nemesis would be implemented into the game, though surprisingly, it became one of the game’s many shortcomings. The\u00a0Resident Evil 3\u00a0<\/em>remake was poorly received overall and seen as a significant drop in quality from the\u00a0Resident Evil 2\u00a0<\/em>remake. Still, the game is far from being bad, and it is worth playing for fans of the series.<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Resident Evil: Village<\/h2>\n
<\/figure>\n

At the time of writing,\u00a0Resident Evil: Village<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>hasn’t been released yet, but the game is just around the corner, and the systems that it will be releasing on have been announced. The game is set to hit stores on the\u00a07th of May, 2021. There are also two demos for the game releasing, the first of which, titled\u00a0Maiden<\/em>,\u00a0<\/em>was released on PlayStation 5 back in January of this year.<\/p>\n
