However, while some opt to <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mortal-kombat-reboot-mk-games-play-waiting-film\/\">play their favorite <em>Mortal Kombat<\/em> games<\/a> until the film\u2019s premiere, some lucky folks have already gotten an exclusive look at the its opening scene.<\/p>\n<p>As more characters like <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mortal-kombat-kabal-poster-first-look\/\">Kabal get added to the list of confirmed fighters<\/a> that will be butchering each other come April 16, there are still plenty of questions regarding what kind of story will take place during the first live action <em>Mortal Kombat<\/em>\u00a0tournament in 23 years. With a newcomer protagonist in <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mortal-kombat-johnny-cage-movies\/\">Cole Young and no Johnny Cage<\/a>, there\u2019s no telling how the\u00a0unknown\u00a0character will blend in with the likes of Sub-Zero and Scorpion.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/most-wanted-game-announcements-2021\/\">10 Games We&#8217;d Love To See Announced Before The End Of 2021<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>One sure thing is that the two ninjas will be featured prominently in <em>Mortal Kombat<\/em>, especially after Collider was treated to an early sneak peek at the movie\u2019s opening scene which features Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada) and Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim). It so happens to be Scorpion\u2019s own origin story, in which he witnesses the Lin Kuei clan led by Sub-Zero murder his family and gives birth to the fiery desire for revenge the fuels <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mortal-kombat-11-aftermath-awards-trailer\/\">Scorpion in the early <em>Mortal Kombat<\/em> games<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CMhisfnjBFP\/\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The scene was complimented for the stark contrast between Scorpion\u2019s quiet family life and how it\u2019s all suddenly taken away from him, including a harrowing shot of Hasashi watching his wife frozen into a solid block of ice, before proceeding to dispose of the Lin Kuei with a more rudimentary version of his signature spear. <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/sword-expert-judges-game-of-thrones-kill-bill\/\">The fight scene does feature some heavy editing and fast-paced cuts<\/a> that see the camera miss parts of the action, though it\u2019d be an odd decision for this style to be implemented throughout the whole film.<\/p>\n<p>Scorpion and Sub-Zero\u2019s first encounter is also commended for making good use of Sanada\u2019s native Japanese as the two ninjas exchange a brief dialogue in Japanese and Chinese, respectively, as a little extra touch to highlight the differences between the two clans. Director Simon McQuoid himself has spoken of how Sanada\u2019s knowledge of traditional Japanese culture came quite handy when implementing these aspects into the character\u2019s persona and surroundings.<\/p>\n<p>With Hanzo Hasashi and Bi-Han being <em>Mortal Kombat\u2019s<\/em> poster boys, and <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mortal-kombat-scorpion-solo-movie\/\">Scorpion even having his own animated movie<\/a> it\u2019s no coincidence they were chosen to be the movie\u2019s main rivals.
