While the game had a troubled development cycle to begin with, it\u00a0has never left Japan despite many\u00a0in the West asking Nintendo for an official release. Now, thanks to fans, the <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/10-visually-stunning-games-game-boy-advance\/\">classic Game Boy Advance game<\/a> is trending on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"related-single\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/nintendo-fans-wishing-game-boy-advance-happy-20th-birthday\/\">Nintendo Fans Wishing Game Boy Advance a Happy 20th Birthday<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In line with fans celebrating the Game Boy Advance&#8217;s 20th anniversary on Twitter,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/tag\/mother-3\/\"><em>Mother 3<\/em><\/a> fans have gotten the game trending by sharing memes, fan art, and other memories. It also seems many are tweeting about the game because they are playing it for the first time. As shown by user Nick_Lalone, even\u00a0though the game was never officially released outside of Japan, non-Japanese fans can play an unofficially localized version via an emulator.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Nick_Lalone\/status\/1373081682677469190?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MegaOfficial\/status\/1373477227866816513?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>One popular meme being shared compares Lucas from\u00a0<em>Mother 3<\/em> to Harold from the\u00a0<em>Captain Underpants<\/em>\u00a0series. Other fans have shared their pixel art featuring various characters from the game.\u00a0Many outside of Japan were first introduced to <em>Mother 3<\/em> by way of\u00a0<i>Super Smash Bros. Brawl<\/i>, which added Lucas to the game as a playable character, being a pseudo-clone of Ness from\u00a0<em>EarthBound<\/em>. Since then, Lucas has appeared in every\u00a0<em>Super Smash Bros.<\/em>\u00a0game, cementing his spot on <a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/super-smash-bros-ultimate-dlc-characters-leak-arthur-morgan\/\">the coveted\u00a0<em>Smash<\/em> roster<\/a>.\u00a0Since\u00a0<em>Mother 3<\/em>&#8216;s\u00a0release in 2006, it has become known among fans for having a touching and sad story falling in line with other games in the\u00a0series, which all deal with mature topics.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FoursideKM\/status\/1373665832291696641?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StevenEggplant\/status\/1373569554543210496?s=20\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s worth noting that Nintendo acknowledged Western fans&#8217; love for the series by localizing and releasing the original NES\u00a0<em>Mother<\/em> game as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/earthbound-beginnings-wii-u-e3-2015\/\"><em>EarthBound Beginnings<\/em> on the Wii U<\/a>\u00a0Virtual Console in 2015, nearly 26 years after its original release in Japan.\u00a0While this surprised many, fans still clamored for an official localization of\u00a0<em>Mother<\/em><em> 3<\/em>, and continue to do so to this day.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, there have been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/mother-3-nintendo-114\/\">rumors that\u00a0<em>Mother 3<\/em> would be localized<\/a> and released on a variety of Nintendo&#8217;s platforms. However, nothing has come to fruition yet.
